Defeating Thailand, the Vietnamese women's team won the 2025 world petanque championship

The Vietnamese women's team won an overwhelming 13-1 victory over rival Thailand in the 60-minute final to win the championship at the 2025 Women's Petanque World Championship held in France.

At Boulodrome du Douaisis, Vietnam has two teams participating in the 2025 Women's Petanque World Championship, one of which is the defending champion with Lan Anh, Thu Tao, Kim Than, Nguyen Thi Hien (Vietnam team 1).

However, this time it was not the 2023 champion team that won the glory, but four new athletes: Le Ngoc Nhu Y, Nguyen Thi Thuy Kieu, Nguyen Thi Thi and Lai Thi Dung (Vietnam team 2). These athletes were led by head coach Dang Xuan Vui ( Hanoi ).

The journey to glory of these 4 girls was really convincing. After the resounding victories in the group stage, they defeated their compatriots, Vietnam 1, in the quarter-finals with a score of 13-3.

They then continued their impressive run in the semi-finals to beat Belgium 13-10 and reach the final. Their opponents in the final were Thailand, who had beaten Cambodia 13-4 in the other semi-final.

Entering this championship match, the Thai female athletes with many talented faces, were eager to avenge their defeat in 2023. But when the match took place, they were completely powerless against the strength of Vietnam. After less than 60 minutes, Vietnam won 13-1 to become the champion.

This is the second time the Vietnamese women's petanque team has won the world championship.
