Lasuco's mark on the pioneering journey of emission reduction

On July 30, 2025, at the Consultation Conference on the Project on Emission Reduction in Crop Production for the period 2025-2030 organized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, Lam Son Sugarcane Joint Stock Company (Lasuco) became a typical bright spot, recognized as one of the pioneering enterprises to early and systematically apply the low-carbon agricultural model in Vietnam.

The conference gathered more than 160 delegates from state management agencies, international organizations, research institutes, leading experts and pioneering enterprises in the field of sustainable agriculture . This is an important forum to share visions, experiences and solutions to achieve the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions, contributing to Vietnam's commitment at COP26, towards the Net Zero target by 2040.

Low-carbon agriculture: From commitment to action

At the conference, Lasuco shared a specific roadmap for applying the low-carbon agricultural model. Accordingly, the enterprise aims to deploy over 9,000 hectares of sugarcane, reducing an average of 1.8 tons of CO2e/ha/year. In other words, each year Lasuco will reduce about 16,200 tons of CO2e emitted into the environment. This is not a small number, demonstrating the enterprise's strong commitment to accompanying the Government and the international community in taking action for the climate.

Notably, Lasuco has now begun implementing phase 1 on an area of ​​500 hectares of sugarcane, in cooperation with prestigious partners from Japan. This international cooperation not only brings financial and technical resources, but also opens up opportunities to access advanced technology, optimal management processes, ensuring strict standards on emissions, sustainable farming and protection of land and water resources.

Not stopping at sugarcane - the strategic crop that has built the Lasuco brand for more than four decades, the company also plans to expand the low-carbon agricultural model to more than 500 hectares of rice directly owned by Lasuco. This demonstrates a systematic and methodical step in building a green - circular - modern agricultural value chain.

A notable point in Lasuco’s strategy is the bold application of digital technology and real-time data right from the production stage in the field. This is the “key” to controlling the cultivation process, optimizing the use of water, fertilizers, pesticides and fuel, thereby reducing greenhouse gas emissions, increasing production efficiency and increasing the added value of products.

Currently, Lasuco has deployed solutions to monitor growth, soil quality and crops using sensors, drones and synchronized data management software. Information collected from the fields is continuously analyzed, allowing appropriate farming recommendations to be made according to each growth stage of the plant, in accordance with increasingly complex weather conditions and climate change.

Digitalizing production not only serves the goal of reducing emissions, but also meets the requirements of traceability and proves product sustainability - an important condition for Vietnamese agricultural products to participate more deeply in global supply chains.

Towards a circular agriculture

Lasuco has long been known for its closed production models and oriented towards circular development. At Lam Son, sugarcane waste such as bagasse and sugarcane leaves are reused to produce biomass electricity, organic fertilizers and microbial products for the fields. In this way, the enterprise not only limits waste to the environment, but also maximizes the value of sugarcane, increases farmers' income, reduces production costs, and reduces dependence on fossil energy sources.

In the near future, when expanding to rice fields, Lasuco will also apply the same principle: post-harvest straw management, irrigation water treatment, and smart rice cultivation to reduce methane emissions - a greenhouse gas many times stronger than CO2.

At the conference, Lasuco representative emphasized: Net Zero 2040 is not just a goal. It is a specific roadmap of action, requiring responsibility, perseverance and close coordination between businesses, farmers, international partners and management agencies. To achieve this goal, Lasuco identified three key factors: technology - people - governance model. In which, advanced technology is the fundamental factor, farmers are the central subject, and modern governance model helps connect and optimize resources.

With the sustainable development philosophy of “All from nature”, Lasuco constantly invests in research and innovation, focusing on building close links with farmers, forming a conscious production community and green farming skills.

In the context of increasingly severe climate change, major export markets such as the EU, the US, Japan... are increasingly tightening carbon emission standards, the low-carbon, circular and digital agricultural model will be a "green passport" for Vietnamese agricultural products to confidently enter the world.

More than forty years ago, Lam Son was known as one of the cradles of the revival of Vietnam's sugar industry. Today, this land has once again become a model for a new chapter: green agricultural transformation, towards net zero emissions. Net Zero 2040 - for Lasuco - is not just a slogan. It is a commitment associated with concrete actions, with green fields, farmers changing their practices, dedicated engineers and value chains gradually being formed by the hands and minds of Vietnamese people.
