The project "Illustration of 'Alice in Wonderland' inspired by H'Mong costumes" by student Phan Hien Linh won the "Digital Prospect" award.

Stemming from her love for national culture and her passion for the work "Alice in Wonderland", Hien Linh has diligently researched and explored to create a unique work, connecting two seemingly unrelated worlds into a unified, artistic whole. Alice and her friends in the story were dressed in costumes and accessories such as silver jewelry and brocade scarves and bags. All were inspired by the motifs and traditional fabric decoration techniques of the H'Mong people, especially the techniques of beeswax painting and indigo dyeing. The goal of the project is not only to express personal illustration style, but also to contribute to preserving and spreading Vietnamese cultural identity to international readers through colorful pages of the story. Thereby, Hien Linh hopes that the work will contribute to inspiring those who love painting, so that they continue to apply national culture to artistic products, thereby together preserving and promoting the good traditional values of Vietnam.

Hien Linh said: "To carry out this project, I applied a lot of knowledge from specialized courses, especially Book Design and Comic Design - courses that helped me learn how to build a plot, design characters, lay out pages and create layouts. The highlight of the project is the use of many different types of crayons 'brushes' to create unique 'textures' for each page of the story. Combined with a bright color palette and cute 'chibi' style, each page is very lively and close, suitable for the children I am aiming for. The software 'Procreate' was used by me throughout the sketching stage to completing the project. This is a drawing tool on the iPad that I have used since 2019, helping me express many of my creativity in most of my subject projects."

From the first days of struggling with ideas and sketches, until each drawing page gradually took shape, Hien Linh was wholeheartedly guided by the teachers of the Faculty of Applied Fine Arts. "I would like to especially thank Master Nguyen Thi Suong - my supervisor, who accompanied and supported me for more than 2 months of implementing the project. With her suggestions and support, I successfully incorporated national elements into the work, making the project more unique and meaningful. My 4 years of university were truly complete with the support and wholehearted guidance of the teachers of the Faculty of Applied Fine Arts, Duy Tan University. The teachers who connected me with the 'Digital Prospect' competition and award were extremely meaningful, giving me the confidence to continue to develop and welcome new opportunities in the future," Hien Linh shared.
