Moving 8 tons of koi fish from Dam Dong lake

Hanoi Tay Ho District requested Quang An Ward to cancel the signed contract and asked the investor to move 8 tons of koi fish out of Dam Dong Lake to plant lotus.

Tay Ho district leaders said on October 29 that Dam Dong lake is only allowed to grow lotus, not fish. The People's Committee of Quang An ward leased the lake for the wrong purpose, so the contract had to be canceled. "In November, the new contract will only include growing lotus to maintain the craft village according to city regulations," said Tay Ho district leaders.

In June, a company released 8 tons of koi fish (12,000 fish, weighing 0.5 to 1 kg each) at a cost of about 6 billion VND. The company representative, Ms. Tran Thi Thuy, said that the fish were imported from Thai Binh , and after being released into the lake, they attracted many people to come and enjoy, up to thousands of people on weekends.

"The water in the lake is about 1.2-1.4 meters deep. When people come to see the fish, we have sent security guards to remind visitors to stay safe," said Ms. Thuy.

Dam Dong Lake is 3.5 hectares wide, located on Quang Ba Street, Quang An Ward, Tay Ho District, Hanoi. Before releasing fish, the lake was rented out to grow lotus.
