Adjusting the time of the largest national competency assessment exam

(Dan Tri) - The largest national capacity assessment exam for university admission is expected to adjust its exam time in the 2026 admissions season.

According to information from Ho Chi Minh City National University, the 2026 capacity assessment exam of this unit will continue to be held in 2 rounds as every year but with adjustments in terms of time.

Specifically, the first round of exams in 2026, the competency assessment exam will still be held on the last Sunday of March. As for the second round of exams, it is expected to be held on June 1, 2026, one week earlier than in 2025.

According to the explanation from Ho Chi Minh City National University, the adjustment of the second round of the exam is to match the general schedule of the Ministry of Education and Training , creating favorable conditions for candidates to take the exam.

According to the 2025-2026 school year schedule of the Ministry of Education and Training, the 2026 high school graduation exam is expected to take place on June 11-12, 15 days earlier than in 2025.

The structure of the competency assessment test will not change compared to 2025. The test will still include 120 multiple-choice objective questions with 150 minutes of testing and will be conducted on paper. The test results will be determined by modern multiple-choice testing methods according to the question response theory.

The score of each question has different weights depending on the difficulty of the question. The test score is converted by section. The maximum score of the test is 1,200 points, in which the maximum score of each component of the test for Vietnamese, English, math, and scientific thinking is 300 points.

Up to now, the Ho Chi Minh City National University's aptitude test is the largest direct university admission test in the country in terms of the number of candidates and the number of schools using the scores for admission.

In 2025, including both rounds of this exam, there will be nearly 153,000 candidates taking the exam, equivalent to more than 223,000 exams.

There are over 110 universities and colleges nationwide that use the results of the Ho Chi Minh City National University's aptitude test for admission.
