The opening goal of the match came in the 55th minute, when substitute midfielder Wang Quiming of the Chinese team volleyed accurately from a cross by midfielder Liu Yang.

Notably, in the final minutes of regulation time, substitute striker Tien Linh received a red card after elbowing naturalized Chinese player Jiang Guangtai.

In the 7th minute of extra time, striker Wu Lei took advantage of a mistake by the Vietnamese team's defense, stole the ball and scored the final goal, making it 2-0 for the Chinese team.

Losing 0-2 to the Chinese team, coach Philippe Troussier's winning streak with the Vietnamese team stopped at 3.

Previously, the Vietnamese team defeated Hong Kong (China) and Syria 1-0, then won 2-0 in the reception of Palestine at Thien Truong Stadium in a friendly match on the occasion of FIFA Days in September.

After the match with the Chinese team, coach Philippe Troussier's team will continue to play friendly matches with Uzbekistan (October 13) and South Korea (October 17) to prepare for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers and the Asian Cup finals.

Concluding the series of international friendly matches during FIFA Days in October, the Vietnamese team will begin their journey in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers with two matches in November, respectively against the Philippines (November 16) and Iraq (November 21).
