It all started when a clip from the series Dead End: Paranormal Park was shared on X network, showing the main character Barney admitting that he is transgender. The account “Libs of TikTok” accused Netflix of “promoting transgender ideology to children”, causing public opinion to explode.
Elon Musk quickly joined the debate, retweeting the post and writing: “This is not okay,” before urging “to cancel Netflix for the health of your children.” In just three days, Musk posted more than 20 posts on the topic, causing the “Cancel Netflix” campaign to spread across social media with millions of interactions.
Musk supporters said Netflix “crossed the line,” while many other viewers insisted that gender diversity was necessary. Author Hamish Steele became the target of attacks, receiving a series of racist emails and comments, forcing him to limit his online presence. Steele said he just wanted to authentically reflect the experiences of the LGBTQ+ community, helping young audiences have more role models.
Netflix has remained silent on the boycott, even though the film Dead End: Paranormal Park was canceled in early 2023. Dear readers, please watch more videos : Australia tightens internet laws, bans children from watching YouTube | Nhan Dan Newspaper
