Nearly a year after returning to the Vietnam national team, what did Van Lam say?

The last time goalkeeper Dang Van Lam played for the Vietnamese national team was in preparation for the AFF Cup 2024. This time, he returned before the match against Nepal in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers.

Goalkeeper Dang Van Lam was chosen as the first player to answer press interviews before the first training session of the Vietnamese team at Binh Duong Stadium (Thu Dau Mot Ward) on the afternoon of October 5.

Van Lam said: "Saying that Van Lam has been absent from the Vietnamese national team for almost a year sounds a bit long. I feel like it was just last week or yesterday. And this time, I will give my best to the team."

The news of Van Lam's departure from the AFF Cup 2024 started in early December last year. At that time, the Vietnamese-American goalkeeper suffered a left calf injury and could not recover in time.

He is one of seven people eliminated. The three goalkeepers participating in the AFF Cup 2024 are Nguyen Filip, Nguyen Dinh Trieu and Tran Trung Kien.

This time, coach Kim Sang Sik did not call Nguyen Filip, Dinh Trieu but only Trung Kien. Van Lam will compete with Nguyen Van Viet (of The Cong - Viettel Club).

"The players called up are the best individuals in the country. All three goalkeepers are skilled. I will try my best to practice and support each other, and who plays is up to the coach," Van Lam said.

Although he has not been called up to the national team for nearly a year, Van Lam was happily welcomed by coach Kim Sang Sik and his teammates with questions about his health. The whole team was comfortable and excited when they gathered for the national team, and all were looking forward to the match against Nepal on October 9.

Regarding the opponent from Nepal, Van Lam admitted that he did not know much: "I also do not have information about the Nepal team. The coaching staff will prepare video tapes, research and show them to us as well as analyze the opponents in the next 2 matches."

The Vietnam team will meet Nepal in the qualifying round of Group F of the 2027 Asian Cup at Binh Duong Stadium on October 9, and Thong Nhat Stadium on October 14.

According to the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) schedule, the match on October 14th will take place in Nepal. However, due to objective reasons, the AFC has decided to hold the match in Vietnam.
