Nearly a decade ago, the hills of Mr. Le Van Trieu's family in Tan Viet village, Quy Mong commune were still planted in rotation with Bodhi and Acacia hybrids. Mr. Trieu recalled: In the past, planting Acacia and Bodhi made the soil both infertile and full of pests, and the income was not much. With the encouragement of local agricultural extension officers, the family decided to switch to planting Bat Do bamboo shoots on an area of 0.5 hectares.

That decision opened a new page for the family economy . His 120 bamboo garden is now in its sixth year, with a stable harvest of over 8 tons of bamboo shoots each year.
Since switching to growing Bat Do bamboo, I feel like a burden has been lifted off my shoulders. Growing Bat Do bamboo does not require much care, preserves the soil, and when the season comes, traders come to the garden to buy the bamboo shoots, earning more than 40 million VND each year.
Similarly, the story of Mrs. Ha Thi Toan’s family in Luong An village, Hung Khanh commune is also a testament to the effectiveness of Bat Do bamboo shoots. The land near the stream of Mrs. Toan’s family used to grow corn and mulberry, but was often devastated by floods.
Mrs. Toan confided: Since planting Bat Do bamboo, I no longer have to worry. 2 hectares of bamboo grow well, the roots cling deep into the soil, both preserving the soil and generating an income of nearly 150 million each year.
In Lao Cai , the Bat Do bamboo is not only a poverty-reducing tree but also a solution to the problem of sustainable farming on sloping land. With its strong growth characteristics, widespread and deep root system, the bamboo forests have become an effective natural "fence", helping to retain soil and water, minimizing erosion and landslides, especially during the rainy and stormy season.
According to Mr. Tran Van Tam - Vice Chairman of Hung Khanh Commune People's Committee, the locality has identified Bat Do bamboo shoots as the main crop with a total area of up to nearly 2,000 hectares. This model has effectively replaced low-value forestry trees on hilly and stream-side land.

The outstanding advantage of Bat Do bamboo is the simple care technique, suitable for the farming level of people in the highlands. The tree is almost free of pests and diseases, the thick canopy also has the ability to inhibit weeds, helping people reduce costs for pesticides, moving towards a green and safe agriculture .
After more than two decades of taking root in Lao Cai, Bat Do bamboo has affirmed its irreplaceable role in the economic structure of the hills and forests. The whole province has now developed more than 6,000 hectares, with the output of commercial bamboo shoots in 2025 estimated at more than 40,000 tons.

With a stable purchase price of 5,000 - 5,500 VND/kg and guaranteed output thanks to links with businesses, people can achieve an average income of 70 - 100 million VND/ha/year, or even higher if intensive farming is done well.
The local government continues to encourage people to expand the area, and at the same time apply science and technology to improve the productivity and quality of bamboo shoots. Bat Do bamboo shoots have truly become a “golden tree”, bringing a prosperous life to the people and covering the difficult lands with sustainable green.
