This is a tough group for Indonesia. However, the Southeast Asian representative will rely on a strong squad of naturalized players to hope to make history.

According to the press of the archipelago, U17 Indonesia will be strengthened with 9 naturalized players to play in Australia and Europe. This is a strategic step that clearly shows the determination of the Indonesian Football Federation (PSSI) in raising the level of youth football through the naturalization policy. They are willing to naturalize young players in exchange for results.

The list of 9 naturalized players of the Indonesia U17 team includes Feike Muller, Floris de Pagter-van Bronckhorst, Eizar Jacob Tanjung, Lionel De Troy, Jona Giesselink, Azadin Ayoub Hamane, Deston Hoop, Nicholas Indra Mjosund and Noha Pohan Simangunsong. These players were born in the Netherlands, Norway, Australia or Finland and were trained at Willem II, SC Telstar, Palermo, Sydney FC, Rosenborg and FC Emmen.

Among them, Floris de Pagter-van Bronckhorst, a player of the SC Telstar U17 team, stands out. Last season, he scored 15 goals and had 15 assists after 40 appearances. Floris de Pagter-van Bronckhorst was even promoted to the Telstar U21 team.

Besides, U17 Indonesia also has central defender Feike Muller (Willem II), Lionel De Troy (Palermo).

Over the years, with the support of the President of the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI), Erick Thohir, the Indonesian team has naturalized many world-class players for the national team as well as the youth team. PSSI hopes that Indonesian football will completely transform and be able to participate in world-class tournaments.

The U17 World Cup featured 48 teams, the largest number in the tournament’s history. Unfortunately, Vietnam U17 failed to qualify for the tournament after drawing all three matches against Australia, Japan and the UAE.
