The 2025-2026 European football season has kicked off for more than a month, with many naturalized Indonesian players making their mark in Serie A, Bundesliga and Ligue 1.
Last weekend, center-back Jay Idzes made his fourth consecutive appearance for Sassuolo, a mid-table team in Serie A. He played solidly, contributing greatly to the 3-1 victory.
After 5 rounds, Idzes started 4 matches. Except for the first round when he had to sit out, he played the entire match for the Italian club.
Sassuolo spent 8.5 million euros to bring Idzes from Venezia, a club record fee. The 25-year-old midfielder quickly proved he was worth it.
Before the above victory, Idzes had played impressively in both matches against Inter Milan (lost 1-2) and Lazio (won 1-0). At the age of 25, Idzes promises to fly high in Serie A.
Idzes is not the only Indonesian player shining in Serie A at the moment. At Cremonese, goalkeeper Emil Audero has been even more impressive, playing the full 450 minutes in 5 rounds.

The former goalkeeper of Inter Milan and Juventus shone when he kept a clean sheet in 3/5 matches, helping Cremonese remain unbeaten. The Lombardy team promises to be a dark horse this season.
In the Bundesliga, Kevin Diks quickly took over the starting position at Monchengladbach. The center-back joined the German team last summer and received a salary of 2.5 million euros.

Compared to his teammates, defender Calvin Verdonk is not far behind when he quickly took over the starting position on the left wing of Lille Club, one of the strongest teams in France.
He was outstanding in the 2-1 win over Brann in the Europa League, then continued his performance in the 0-1 loss to Lyon in Ligue 1 last weekend.
Indonesia currently has about 10 naturalized players playing in Europe, spread across the Netherlands, Belgium and the English lower leagues.
However, the four players mentioned above are the most prominent and are all in the defense. Their stable performance promises to help Indonesia stand firm when they meet Saudi Arabia and Iraq in the World Cup qualifiers in October.
