Hue is gradually affirming its position as "Vietnam's green industrial destination".
New growth drivers
In the first 6 months of 2025, Hue's GRDP increased by 9.39%, striving to achieve double-digit growth for the whole year. The economic structure has shifted positively, in which services - tourism and industry - construction play a key role. Notably, Hue is determined to develop green, clean and high-tech industry - both creating added value and ensuring ecological balance.
The strategic location advantage is also an important driving force. Hue is located on the East-West Economic Corridor, connecting Vietnam with Laos, Thailand, Myanmar, and is also in the Central Key Economic Zone. This is the foundation for the city to attract sustainable industrial projects.
A typical mark is the Kim Long Motor Hue Production and Assembly Complex (165 hectares, capital of nearly 1 billion USD). The project applies modern technology lines, contributing to the formation of an automobile industry ecosystem, technology transfer, and creating thousands of high-quality jobs.
According to Vice Chairman of Hue City People's Committee Phan Quy Phuong, the city has issued many mechanisms to support green transformation enterprises: investing in infrastructure inside and outside the project fence, treating circulating wastewater, encouraging technological innovation, and developing intellectual property. Four working groups under the leadership of the City People's Committee regularly remove obstacles and speed up the progress of key projects.
Hue is also finalizing tax, land, and credit incentives for green industry; at the same time, improving the investment environment and shortening licensing procedures. The focus is on developing synchronous infrastructure – transportation, seaports, airports, logistics, electricity and water – and improving the quality of human resources through cooperation with universities and vocational training institutions.
Hue City People's Committee and enterprises signed strategic cooperation on September 19.
Modern infrastructure and long-term vision
At the workshop "Green transformation and strategy to attract industrial investment in Hue city", many experts highly appreciated the city's orientation.
Associate Professor Dr. Tran Dinh Thien, former Director of the Vietnam Economic Institute, commented: "Hue is on the right track when choosing green industry, but needs the resonance from businesses, government and community to achieve long-term goals."
Mr. Nguyen Tuan Quang, Deputy Director of the Department of Climate Change ( Ministry of Agriculture and Environment ), emphasized: "Hue has advantages in landscape and community awareness, but needs stronger policies for businesses to convert technology and raise clean production standards."
According to Mr. Pham Van Quan, Deputy Director of the Department of Industry (Ministry of Industry and Trade), the biggest challenge now is transport and logistics infrastructure. Hue needs to speed up inter-regional connections and attract large-scale projects to create a spillover effect.
Based on the practice and recommendations of experts, Hue sets out a number of key orientations: building a set of specific green industry criteria associated with heritage; mobilizing green finance through preferential credit, green bonds, and international cooperation; developing clean technology human resources; transparent environmental data; synchronous planning between industrial parks, urban areas, and heritage spaces.
Chairman of Hue City People's Committee Nguyen Van Phuong affirmed: "Hue chooses the path of green and sustainable development. Investing in Hue is not only about seeking profit, but also about joining hands to build a green - clean - livable heritage city. The city is committed to long-term companionship with pioneering investors in the field of innovation and sustainability."
With the determination of the government, the business community and the support from the scientific community, Hue is gradually affirming its position as "Vietnam's Green Industrial Destination" - a place where economic development is in harmony with heritage conservation and maintaining a clean living environment.
