Meet the journalists who made their mark through their works at the 18th National Press Awards

Wishing to contribute to bringing the Party and State's policies and guidelines closer to ethnic minorities

I have attended the National Press Awards for several years, but this year is truly special, not because our group of reporters got a "change of medal color" but because this year the organization has been truly innovative. True to the spirit of honoring authors with outstanding works from all over the country. We feel honored and proud to attend such an impressive ceremony, this further motivates us to try harder in the future.

Our work is about the mountainous district of Nam Tra My, Quang Nam province, many poor households in the project area received financial support to build houses, many families borrowed money to build houses first, waiting for financial support later, but when the house was finished, people were in debt because they did not receive financial support. From that reality, my colleagues and I went to the ethnic minority areas many times to learn, meet with local authorities to find specific solutions.

To have enough data, we had to go to remote areas, poor ethnic minority areas. Ethnic minorities often go to the fields very early and return home in the evening. To meet the people, reporters had to ask local officials to make an appointment so that the people could stay at home, otherwise they had to stay overnight in the village waiting for them to return to meet. We spent more than a month going to many places, meeting and working with many poor people and representatives of agencies and local authorities in the Central region.

Through this series of articles, we want our audience to know more about what is happening in the lives of poor ethnic minorities in the mountainous areas with special difficulties in some localities in the Central region. We hope to contribute to bringing the policies of the Party and the State closer to the people, especially ethnic minorities.

Maintain the blood relationship between the Party and the People

On June 11, 2023, in Cu Kuin district, Dak Lak province, a terrorist attack against the government occurred with particularly serious consequences, causing 11 casualties. This is not the first time in the Central Highlands that terrorist activities have occurred, causing disturbances in "hot spots" and inciting a group of ignorant people to violate the law, with the aim of causing political instability.

Identifying this as a very "sensitive" important case, the Editorial Board of People's Television has urgently developed a discussion program to promptly orient public opinion. We determined that to destroy the plots of hostile forces against the state, we need not only normal news reports, but also in-depth analysis and commentary articles in the official press agencies as quickly as possible. This is the motivation for our group to be determined to produce this work soon.

We tried to make the work, in a short time, fast but also profound, close, natural, and convincing. From the work, we draw a profound lesson: we must maintain the blood relationship between the Party and the People; build a team of exemplary village elders, exemplary people in ethnic groups, religions, and social classes. Especially, we must know the ethnic language, understand the customs, live with the people, and become "relatives" of the people.

Ensure security and order at the grassroots level to keep peace in the villages.

I have participated in the competition for many years now. In the radio category, my colleagues and I have won many awards. Each time we win an award, it helps to inspire my passion for journalism and motivates me to always try my best and be creative in my future work, thereby confidently participating in other journalism awards.

For my topic, I found that, before the development of social networks, taking advantage of the lack of knowledge of ethnic minorities, through associations and groups on social networks, many reactionary subjects have propagated about the impending doomsday. Fearing the coming doomsday, many Mong ethnic households in some highland villages of Yen Bai province have sold all their buffaloes, cows, fields, and neglected their farming work, affecting security and order and disrupting their lives.

With the theme “Don’t let the “Doomsday” happen”, the special radio program of Yen Bai Radio and Television Station organized by us had the participation of 2 guests representing the functional sector and local government. The guests analyzed the reasons that lead ethnic minorities to easily believe in nonsense and be lured by subjects to join religious organizations that are not recognized by the State, pointed out the consequences of this and proposed solutions to ensure security and order in ethnic minority areas…

Don't let "Doomsday" happen, we use modern broadcasting methods, presented in multimedia form, on different platforms: Live broadcast on Yen Bai Radio and Television Station and livestream on Yen Bai Television Fanpage. The program is a connection of stories to once again show that the ethnic minority areas in Yen Bai still have the potential risk of losing security and order if the functional sectors and local authorities do not manage and control in time.

Our work is 30 minutes long, but we try to raise the issue directly and objectively, from the opinions, concerns, and worries of the people about the appearance of illegal religious organizations. The work also has analysis and comments from the functional sector and representatives of local authorities, helping listeners better understand the potential risks and factors affecting the security of ethnic minority areas in Yen Bai province.

In addition, we offer solutions to maintain security and order at the grassroots level, including promoting the role of village elders, village chiefs, and prestigious people in propaganda work, mobilizing people, preventing illegal proselytizing, and ensuring security and order at the grassroots level to keep peace in the highland villages of Yen Bai.
