The price of live pigs has been experiencing unexpected fluctuations over the weekend, signaling a new wave in the market. While some areas continue to be in a stable state, many provinces and cities have quietly adjusted prices, creating notable hot spots.
The North is quiet but still has bright spots
The Northern market today is mostly stable. However, Cao Bang suddenly became the highlight with an increase of 1,000 VND/kg, pushing the price up to 59,000 VND/kg. Although many key provinces such as Tuyen Quang, Bac Ninh, Hanoi and Hung Yen still maintain the highest price of 60,000 VND/kg, other areas such as Lai Chau and Son La are still having difficulty maintaining the low price of 57,000 VND/kg. In the whole region, the price of live pigs is fluctuating between 57,000 - 60,000 VND/kg.

Joining hands in livestock farming to fight African swine fever
According to information from the Agriculture and Environment newspaper, the authorities of Tan Pheo commune, Phu Tho province called on livestock farmers to join hands to quickly control African swine fever, minimize the risk of spread and economic damage.
In Cham hamlet, Mr. Ha Van Kinh’s family raised 10 pigs ready for sale. Before selling, the family coordinated with the commune’s veterinary staff to check and take samples for testing. The results showed that the entire herd was infected with the African swine fever virus, forcing them to destroy 300 kg of pigs. Mr. Kinh confided: “We expected to sell pigs during Tet to earn income, but in just a moment, all the effort and money invested were lost. This loss is really hard to overcome.”
According to records, since September 2, in Cham and Phon hamlets, many herds of pigs have shown abnormal signs such as not eating, high fever, convulsions and gradually dying. By September 5, the Central Veterinary Diagnosis and Testing Center I confirmed that the test samples were positive for African swine fever virus. Currently, the total herd of pigs in Tan Pheo commune is 2,289, including 467 sows, 96 boars, 1,041 pigs and 685 piglets. With a large scale of farming, the risk of disease spreading is very worrying if there are no timely control measures.
Immediately after identifying the epidemic, the People's Committee of Tan Pheo commune issued Decision No. 303/QD-UBND, announcing the African swine fever epidemic and implementing quarantine zones in Cham, Phon, and Than hamlets - areas with high risk of infection.
