The Northern region witnessed a price reduction of about 1 VND/kg in Hanoi , bringing the price down to 53,000 VND/kg. Most other provinces remained unchanged compared to October 15, keeping the average price in the whole region at about 52,900 VND/kg. This development shows that the market remains stable in the context of no clear signs of increasing demand.

Pig price in Central Highlands

In the Central region, the live hog market continues to be stable, with prices ranging from 50,000 to 52,000 VND/kg. The balance between domestic supply and demand is considered a factor helping the region maintain stability, although feed costs remain high and significantly affect the profits of farmers.

Southern pig price

In the Southern region, some localities such as Dong Thap and An Giang recorded a slight decrease, with prices remaining at around VND51,000-52,000/kg. On average, the price across the region dropped slightly to VND52,600/kg, reflecting the cautious sentiment of traders during the quiet trading period.

Current price trends show that the live hog market is still fluctuating within a narrow range, with no significant signs of change. However, the livestock industry is facing risks from disease and food safety issues, which are considered major challenges in the current period.

According to the Agriculture and Environment newspaper, Khanh Hoa is vigorously implementing the second round of vaccination and strictly implementing detailed, synchronous biosafety measures to prevent the risk of disease outbreaks.

The situation of African swine fever and avian influenza in Khanh Hoa province is complicated and difficult to control. A report from the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Khanh Hoa province said that from October 1-12, African swine fever occurred in 101 households in 38 villages, in 15 communes and wards, forcing the destruction of 1,895 pigs with a total weight of more than 102 tons.

In parallel, 10 households in 4 communes and wards also discovered bird flu, and had to destroy 1,203 birds. The changing weather in the coming time is forecast to create favorable conditions for the disease to develop, increasing the risk of outbreaks and spread of the disease.

In addition, the existence of dangerous virus strains such as avian influenza A/H5 (H5N1, H5N6...) and African swine fever, combined with the fact that many livestock farmers have not strictly complied with veterinary hygiene regulations, especially the act of dumping animal carcasses and discharging untreated waste into the environment, is increasing the risk of disease transmission.

Faced with this complicated situation, the Department of Agriculture and Environment has directed localities to mobilize maximum resources, absolutely not to be negligent or subjective, in order to promptly detect and resolutely destroy sick or suspected pigs and poultry to thoroughly handle outbreaks.

The key solution is to strengthen vaccination for all livestock. Communes and wards need to urgently complete the review and complete the second phase of vaccination in 2025 on schedule. For avian influenza, special attention must be paid to statistics and vaccination for poultry flocks, ensuring a coverage rate of over 80% of the total at-risk flock, and timely supplementary vaccination for newly emerging flocks.
