Multi-trip ticket prices nearly doubled
A survey by reporters on online ticket sales sites and ticket offices on the morning of August 18 showed that ticket prices from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to tourist destinations such as Nha Trang, Con Dao, and Phu Quoc during the September 2 holiday increased "vertically".
If customers choose to fly on August 31 (beginning of the holiday) and return on September 3 (end of the holiday), the round-trip airfare from Hanoi to Phu Quoc (including taxes and fees) of Vietjet Air is from 7.4 to 7.9 million VND; Vietravel Airlines is from 6.4 to 7.5 million VND, nearly double the price of flights from mid-August to early July.
Meanwhile, Vietnam Airlines has no information about tickets for this flight. This means that all tickets for this flight have been sold out.
Another flight route is Hanoi - Con Dao, round-trip ticket prices of Vietravel Airlines and Vietnam Airlines range from 7.4 - 7.7 million VND (including taxes and fees), an increase of about 2 million VND per round-trip ticket compared to flights in July and mid-August.
Meanwhile, round-trip tickets for flights from Ho Chi Minh City to Phu Quoc by Vietravel Airlines and Vietnam Airlines range from 3.2 to 3.6 million VND, while Vietjet Air tickets cost 3.1 to 3.4 million VND (including taxes and fees), 400,000 to 700,000 VND higher than flights from mid-August to the end of June.
A survey of the Hanoi-Nha Trang flight route shows that ticket prices have also increased sharply. Specifically, round-trip tickets (including taxes and fees) of Vietnam Airlines cost from 4.5 to 4.8 million VND, Vietjet Air costs more than 5.4 million VND, an increase of 500 thousand to 1 million VND compared to flights from mid-August to early July.
Meanwhile, Bamboo Airways' Hanoi-Nha Trang flight ticket price increased dramatically, at nearly 7.5 million VND/round-trip ticket, an increase of 2 to 3 million VND compared to other domestic airlines at the same time and more than double compared to Bamboo Airways' flight in mid-August.
Explaining the reason for the high airfare prices, an airline representative said that airfare prices during the September 2 holiday only increased compared to the low summer season, and did not exceed the ceiling price set by the Ministry of Transport.
A survey of another flight route, Hanoi - Da Nang, during the September 2 holiday, by airlines showed that the ticket prices increased insignificantly. Specifically, the round-trip ticket price including taxes and fees for this flight of Vietnam Airlines is from 3.6 to 3.9 million VND, Vietjet Air from 3.7 to 4.1 million VND, and Bamboo Airway from 3.6 to 3.9 million VND.
Thus, the ticket price for the Hanoi - Da Nang flight during the September 2nd holiday increased compared to the time before the holiday by 300 - 700 thousand VND/ticket and the ticket prices of the airlines are not much different.
There is no shortage of plane tickets.
Regarding the question of whether airlines are increasing ticket prices to "make up for lost revenue" due to a lack of planes and flights, the airlines all confirmed that there is no shortage of planes and tickets.
“To ensure people's travel needs and the recent direction of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam on implementing plans and tasks to serve passengers during the National Day holiday on September 2, we have proactively coordinated with travel businesses in developing programs and plans to exploit and increase flights to key tourist localities, thereby supporting, promoting and enhancing domestic and international tourism activities , ” said a representative of Vietnam Airlines.
Vietnam Airlines has increased nearly half a million seats, equivalent to nearly 2,500 flights during the peak holiday season of National Day September 2. Of which, the total number of domestic seats reached 330,000, an increase of more than 19% compared to the same period in 2023.
“Up to this point, on popular tourist routes, the airline's occupancy rate has reached nearly 60%,” said a representative of Vietnam Airlines.
Meanwhile, a representative of Vietjet Air also informed that the airline has increased 25,000 seats, equivalent to 120 flights, to meet the travel needs of people and tourists.
Similarly, from August 30 to September 4, Vietravel Airlines also offers nearly 28,000 seats.
