Warmth in the days of great floods
Today (October 13), the flood on Cau River and Ca Lo River has receded, thousands of people in Da Phuc and Trung Gia communes ( Hanoi ) returned home from evacuation sites, urgently cleaning their houses, rearranging furniture, and clearing mud after many days of deep flooding.
In Do Tan village (Trung Gia commune) - where nearly 100% of households were flooded, at noon on October 13, Hanoi Moi Newspaper reporters recorded that most of the roads and residential areas had run out of water, with only a few low-lying areas remaining. Hundreds of police and military officers and soldiers, along with militia and youth volunteers, are assisting people in cleaning the environment, collecting waste, and disinfecting to help stabilize life soon.

Talking to a reporter from Hanoi Moi Newspaper, Secretary of the Do Tan village Party Cell Nguyen Van Minh emotionally said: "Without the attention of all levels and sectors of the city, especially the police and military forces coming to help, the people here would have had a hard time overcoming such a large flood as just now."
According to comrade Nguyen Van Minh, Do Tan village has 844 households with 3,600 people. Living along the river, the people and local authorities always pay attention to natural disaster prevention and control. When the river water rose, the commune mobilized hundreds of people with materials and equipment to build land to prevent floods from entering residential areas. However, due to the large river flood and the risk of the dike overflowing, the commune switched to activating a plan to evacuate people and property from low-lying areas to higher areas, providing necessities to households at the evacuation site. Thanks to this initiative, 100% of the people in Do Tan village did not go hungry or lack drinking water during the flood days.

According to Do Tan Village Chief Nguyen Van Giang, during the flood days, local forces "worked all night, rowing boats into every alley to distribute relief goods. The heads of organizations and alleys are responsible to the people for the quantity of goods distributed; if there is any feedback, it is checked immediately and clarified on the spot to avoid loss."
In particular, on the right dike of Cau Bridge, 68 households had to go up to the dike to avoid the flood. The commune arranged a grassroots security team of 8 people to be on duty day and night to protect and ensure security, order and property of the people. During the flood, 5 cases of danger were rescued promptly, without any casualties.
As one of 68 households who went up to the dike to avoid the flood and look after their property, Mr. Nguyen Van Thao (in Mai hamlet) shared: During the time of avoiding the flood on the dike, the people here were encouraged by the village and commune forces, provided with dry food and drinking water. No family lost any belongings...

Ms. Vu Thi Xuan (77 years old) was moved: “I am old so the commune and village officials asked us to evacuate to the village cultural house. Here, we were given three meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner), no one was hungry or lacked drinking water, we felt warmed by the responsible care from all levels and sectors of the city. We are very grateful to the Party and the State...”.
Focus on supporting people
Not only Do Tan, people in many other villages of Trung Gia and Da Phuc communes witnessed with their own eyes the image of the Prime Minister and leaders of Hanoi city coming to the flooded area to inspect and direct the protection of the key dike, evacuate people and request "at all costs, ensure the safety of people's lives". On October 10, the Hanoi People's Committee granted Trung Gia and Da Phuc communes 20 billion VND to carry out the task of preventing and fighting natural disasters...
Head of the Culture - Social Department of Trung Gia commune, Nguyen Thi Tra Lien, said that during the flood days, the department was the focal point for receiving, classifying, and coordinating relief goods, coordinating with military and police units to transport them to deep flooded areas.
“We have prepared enough daily necessities for one person per day and arranged 15 officers on duty regularly; of which four are in the flooded area and are in charge of residential gathering points to provide timely support,” said comrade Nguyen Thi Tra Lien.

According to Trung Gia Commune Party Secretary Le Huu Manh, during the flood days, the commune mobilized 294 people, used 8 motorboats, 6 specialized vehicles to supply goods, transport people and provide rescue and relief. As of October 12, Trung Gia Commune had transferred to Do Tan village a total of 1,113 necessities, 1,739 cartons of purified water, 240 cartons of milk, 300 cartons of instant noodles, 70 cartons of bread, 8 cartons of dry food, 10 cartons of instant porridge, 30 life jackets, 40 flashlights; at the same time, coordinated with 12 volunteer groups to transport goods to isolated residential areas.
When the water receded, nearly 200 officers, soldiers and organizations continued to stay in Do Tan village to help people clean, disinfect, clean houses, and collect mud. "Up to now, 100% of households in Do Tan have returned home from the evacuation site to overcome the consequences of the flood," said Nguyen Van Minh, Secretary of the Do Tan village Party Cell.
In fact, in recent days, Hanoi city has mobilized thousands of officers and soldiers, along with hundreds of vehicles, motorboats, and specialized vehicles of the Capital Command, City Police, Chemical Command, and General Department of Logistics to participate in rescue, dyke reinforcement, relief goods transportation, and disinfectant spraying in heavily flooded areas.

After the flood receded, units and localities continued to mobilize forces and means to support people in flooded areas; in which, Brigade 86, Chemical Corps sprayed disinfectant in all 18 flooded villages, school areas, medical stations, and cultural houses - places where people had been evacuated. Youth, women, and militia forces continued to coordinate to clean up the environment, clear the flow, and overcome the consequences of the flood...
From Trung Gia looking out over the whole of Hanoi, it can be seen that the spirit of "government and people united, armed forces serving the people" has become a solid support during natural disasters.
The flood has passed, but the responsibility, humanity, sharing, and will to rise of Hanoi people still shine - proof of the responsibility, bravery, and love of the "City serving the people".
