Netherlands-based semiconductor maker Nexperia said on October 19 that its employees in China still have access to the company's platforms and are receiving salaries as usual, a day after its Chinese branch asserted it has the right to operate independently from the Dutch company.

"We are aware of a message being circulated by individuals at Nexperia China with false content that Nexperia and the Dutch government have abandoned the Chinese market, and that the factory is now operating under a new legal entity," the Dutch chipmaker told Reuters.

The company has said any claims that staff have not been paid are "false and misleading".

Amid the US-China trade tensions, the Dutch government took control of Nexperia on September 30 and removed its Chinese CEO, Zhang Xuezheng, citing concerns that technology could be transferred to Wingtech, Nexperia’s parent company based in China.

Nexperia's China branch said on October 18 that it complies with Chinese law and has the right to operate independently, a day after the Netherlands said talks had begun to ease tensions over export controls.

Nexperia is known to produce chips for car manufacturers and consumer electronics. Nexperia's chips are not very advanced in technology, but are widely used. On October 4, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce blocked Nexperia from exporting chips out of China.
