In early September, Ly Hong Hai, a former student at the Foreign Trade University, went to Beijing (China) to study for a master's degree in foreign economics . This new journey is the result of personal efforts and the companionship and support of border guards over the years.

Hai was born and raised in Phuc Hoa commune, Cao Bang province, a Nung ethnic group, his family was a farmer , and his circumstances were difficult when his father passed away when he was only 3 years old. In that situation, his mother became the pillar of the family to raise Hai and his sister to study.

Major General Phung Quoc Tuan visited, gave gifts and encouraged Hai before he left for China to attend school.

With such difficult conditions, it seemed like his dream and path to study would end, but fortunately - in Hai's words, he received sponsorship, help, care and encouragement from the Border Guard officers in the program "Helping you go to school - adopted children of the border guard station".

Hai confided: “I feel very lucky and extremely moved, grateful to the soldiers at the Ta Lung International Border Post, especially Uncle Phung Quoc Tuan, who has taken me under his wing, always given me their utmost care, boundless love and followed my every step. They have treated me like a son in the family. Their help and care not only helped my family reduce some of the economic burden but also provided a great source of spiritual motivation to help me pass the Foreign Trade University entrance exam with 28 points, block D, in 2020.”

According to regulations, the program "Helping children go to school - adopted children of border guards" will support students financially in the program until they graduate from high school. However, for Hai, the companionship, care and encouragement of Major General Phung Quoc Tuan and the Border Guard Station of Ta Lung International Border Gate continued throughout his university years. Not disappointing the expectations of his uncles and aunts, during his studies and training at the Foreign Trade University, Hai always maintained excellent grades and won a type A scholarship. In 2024, Hai graduated with honors in foreign economics, and at the same time, he made efforts to study on his own to achieve an IELTS 7.5 certificate in English and HSK 5 in Chinese, winning a full scholarship for a master's degree from the Chinese Government at the University of Economics and Foreign Trade in Beijing.

Now, Hai has settled down in his new country and adapted to his new learning environment. Although far away, Hai still looks back to his homeland with the desire to study well and contribute to the Fatherland. Hai confided that on a new journey, a new turning point in his life, he will always study well, strive to become an excellent, exemplary individual, and become a useful citizen to society.
