On October 23, Mr. Nguyen Hoai Nguyen, Chairman of the People's Committee of Van Duc Commune, Gia Lai Province (formerly part of Hoai An District, Binh Dinh Province), said that the locality is verifying the case of the Vice Principal of An Thanh Secondary School asking students to stop studying to go sweep the trash. According to Mr. Nguyen, the commune will compare relevant regulations to have appropriate handling direction.

Previously, Mr. HAQ (40 years old, residing in An Tuong 1 village, Van Duc commune), representing parents of An Thanh Secondary School, sent a petition to report that Vice Principal Pham Minh Trung had students stop class to sweep the school grounds.

Parents said that on the afternoon of October 2, when students of classes 8A3 and 9A1 were in their first period, Mr. Trung suddenly entered the classroom and asked the whole class to stop studying, then sent the students out into the yard in the hot sun to clean up because the morning cleaning area still had trash and leaves. Afterwards, Mr. Trung asked the classes to make up for it in the fifth period on the morning of October 6.

Also in the afternoon of the same day, Mr. Trung is said to have entered class 6A1, yelled at the teacher who was teaching natural science because he did not have teaching materials, and then asked to stop the class. "Mr. Trung's attitude and behavior made our children very scared," Mr. Q. reflected.

Speaking to reporters, Mr. Le Van Dung, Principal of An Thanh Secondary School, confirmed the incident and said that the school had held a meeting to review and learn from experience.

According to Mr. Dung, Mr. Trung only wanted to remind students to seriously follow the cleaning schedule and raise awareness of hygiene, but letting students sweep trash during class is "unscientific and unharmonious".

"The school accepts responsibility and will make adjustments so that the cleaning does not affect class time, creating peace of mind for students and parents," said Mr. Dung.
