While teaching, teacher Vu Thi Thu Ha helped poor students and exempted tuition fees for children in difficult circumstances.

Now retired, the teacher still regularly goes to remote villages in the old Kon Tum province (now Quang Ngai province), silently caring for and bringing hope to the unfortunate and unlucky without asking for anything in return.

The teacher used her salary to buy rice and food for the poor.

In her memory, teacher Vu Thi Thu Ha cannot forget the difficult days of lack of food and clothes. At that time, her parents advised her not to study pedagogy, but with her will, she still resolutely entered the path of education .

From 1988 to 2019, she taught many generations of students. For her, teaching is not only about making a living but also about instilling faith and hope in children who do not have the means. During her years in the classroom, she applied for tuition exemption for poor students and tutored them to give them more opportunities to study.

"When I was in school, I sometimes felt disadvantaged because I was from a poor family. So when I grew up and started teaching, I tried to find ways to help poor students," Ms. Ha shared.

Now retired, Ms. Ha is working hard in another class: the class of love and compassion, helping the unfortunate people around her. To do this, each month, Ms. Ha spends money from her pension to buy rice, food, medicine and necessities to support about 10 seriously ill people, needy children, lonely elderly people... "If I don't help, they won't know who to rely on," she said.

Every time she comes to those situations, Ms. Ha listens, shares, and gives them confidence in life. Those she helps are always moved, knowing that with Ms. Ha by their side, they will worry less every day.

Having a predestined relationship with remote villages, the teacher spreads faith in life

Ms. Ha often visits remote villages in Kon Tum. These are poor villages in the west of Quang Ngai: Teresa, Sa Loong, Po To, Ha Dong (Gia Lai)...

There, she couldn't help but feel heartbroken when seeing barefoot children and sick elderly people living off the love of the community. Every time someone texted to inform her that a village needed help, she would rush off without any prior plans. "I went wherever I heard there was a need. I can't remember how many trips I've made," Ms. Ha shared.

The moment the children sat on the ground eating noodles made her remember forever.

Each of Ms. Ha’s trips is a story connected with lives, villages and unforgettable moments. She personally cooks hundreds of bowls of noodles and rice for a poor village. She is happy and joyful when each hot meal is shared with the sick, children or lonely elderly.

On occasions like Mid-Autumn Festival, Christmas or Lunar New Year, Ms. Ha also brings books, toys, and cakes to organize small ceremonies, creating happy moments for children, helping them forget the difficult days.

Ms. Ha remembers trips that took all day. They started early in the morning and arrived late in the afternoon. When she lacked funds, she called on friends and donors for support. In this way, each trip, she was like a thread connecting kindness with those in need.

During those charity events, she witnessed many images so real that it made her feel heartbroken. There was a scene where a child dropped a candy on the ground, even when she gave him another candy, he still picked it up, brushed the dirt off and ate it deliciously. Another time, after distributing noodles to the village, she saw a child carefully put half a bowl of noodles in a plastic bag. When she asked, the child said: "I saved some for my younger brother."

During her trips to those remote villages, Ms. Ha felt the joy and pain of others and felt her heart tighten. "I want to give more every time I see that kind of life. Every time I go, I see that there are still many lives that need help, but I'm afraid I don't have enough strength to help them for long," she shared.

Ms. Ha just hopes that the people she helps will improve, she doesn't need fame, she doesn't need anyone to repay her.

Ms. Huynh Thi Dan Tram, a long-time colleague of Ms. Ha who is working at Tran Hung Dao Secondary School, Kon Tum Ward (Quang Ngai), shared that Ms. Ha is a compassionate person, despite being busy, she still takes time to do charity work.

"Almost every month she goes to charity, sometimes traveling dozens of kilometers. She doesn't hesitate to help anyone who needs it," said Ms. Tram.
