Celebrating the spirit of dialogue and discovery

Mr. Éric Soulier - Counselor for Cooperation and Cultural Activities, Director of the French Institute in Vietnam - affirmed that Photo Hanoi '25 is a place to honor the spirit of dialogue and discovery - to honor all the elements that make up the strong vitality of photography today.

The exhibitions are curated by Vietnamese and international curators.

Regarding the evaluation of the works participating in the exhibition, Mr. Hoang Quoc Viet said that this year there were 10 sets of documents participating, with over 1,000 photos. After evaluation, the council only eliminated 4 photos that were not suitable.

"Most of the works show artistic value, reflect the human spirit, and present new perspectives. Four photos were eliminated because they were not suitable. For example, a photo related to the emotions of a father and son on their journey to live in the capital, including an image of a person lying in a position that violated traffic laws," said Mr. Viet.

Regarding the correlation of levels between Vietnamese and international artists participating in Photo Hanoi '25, artist Nguyen The Son, representing the organizing committee, told Tuoi Tre Online that he participated in organizing both Photo Hanoi 2023 and 2025 seasons and noticed little difference in the art of Vietnamese and international artists at the Biennale.

In fact, it is clear that in terms of training and practice, the art of photography in Vietnam cannot be compared to that of developed countries. However, in art photography, the difference between Vietnamese and international artists is very small.

"There is a "chase" between Vietnamese artists and international artists in photography, from traditional photography, to digital photography, contemporary photography, conceptual photography, especially contemporary photography," said Mr. The Son.
