Hanoi builds Thuong Cat bridge over Red River for more than 7,300 billion VND

On the morning of October 8, in the atmosphere of celebrating the 71st anniversary of the Capital Liberation Day (October 10, 1954 - October 10, 2025), the Hanoi People's Committee held the groundbreaking ceremony for the Thuong Cat Bridge and the road at both ends of the bridge - a key traffic project within the urban development program, infrastructure improvement and regional connectivity promotion of the Capital.

At the ceremony, Vice Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Duong Duc Tuan said: "Thuong Cat Bridge is the sixth bridge across the Red River to be started in 2025, which is of special importance in completing the traffic infrastructure network, promoting the development of the area north of the Red River and connecting the central urban area".

The project has a total investment of more than 7,302 billion VND, expected to be completed in 2027, with the Hanoi Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board as the investor.

Thuong Cat Bridge is permanently designed with prestressed reinforced concrete, cable-stayed bridge form, with a total length of 5.2 km, of which the main bridge is 780 m long, 35 m wide, ensuring 8 lanes (6 motor lanes, 2 non-motorized lanes). Both ends of the bridge are expanded into large-scale access roads - the South (Bac Tu Liem district) is 60 m wide, the North (Dong Anh district) is 50 m wide - creating a complete connection axis with Ring Road 3.5 and National Highway 23B.

According to Mr. Ngo Ngoc Van - Director of the Project Management Board, the project will gradually complete the traffic system according to the planning, reduce congestion, increase the capacity of goods and passengers, create conditions for the formation of new urban areas and promote production and business in the Northwest region of Hanoi.

Thuong Cat Bridge is not only a vital traffic route but also a "lever" for socio -economic development, contributing to sharing traffic with Ring Road 3, opening up a sustainable development direction for the areas of Bac Tu Liem, Dong Anh, Me Linh and neighboring areas.

Appreciating the participation of the units, Vice Chairman Duong Duc Tuan suggested: "Immediately after the groundbreaking ceremony, departments, branches, and local authorities need to closely coordinate with the investor; contractors must mobilize maximum human resources, equipment, organize scientific and safe construction, ensuring progress, quality, technical and aesthetic aspects of the project."

The groundbreaking ceremony of Thuong Cat Bridge marks an important step forward in the capital's transport infrastructure development strategy, contributing to realizing the goal of building a civilized and modern Hanoi, synchronously connecting the Red River urban area.
