The investment project to build the Hanoi Opera House and thematic cultural and art park is invested by Sun Group Corporation, with a scale of 40 hectares, total capital of more than 12,756 billion VND at Quang An Peninsula, Tay Ho ward.
The project includes: Hanoi Opera House, a modern, multi-purpose house with a capacity of nearly 2,000 seats, serving major cultural and political events of the capital. Together with the thematic cultural and artistic park, Hanoi Opera House will meet the creative, enjoyment and entertainment needs of the people, and at the same time be a highlight to attract domestic and foreign tourists.
The Hanoi Opera House was designed by architect Renzo Piano, one of the most influential architects of the 20th century. The most distinctive mark of the theater is the dome architecture, inspired by the ripples of West Lake, with a super thin, super strong structure and covered with a layer of material that creates a pearl effect, so that it can reflect the color of West Lake's water surface according to the movement of time during the day. This will also be a project that demonstrates the values and cultural connections of the world with Vietnamese culture, bringing Vietnam to the world in accordance with the direction of General Secretary To Lam: Making the capital Hanoi "become a model socialist capital, developing on 5 pillars, with culture and people placed in the first place".
Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Duong Duc Tuan said that in the exciting atmosphere to celebrate the Capital Liberation Day (October 10), to welcome the 18th City Party Congress and the 14th National Congress of the Party, Hanoi City coordinated with Sun Group to organize the groundbreaking ceremony of the Hanoi Opera House and thematic cultural and artistic park investment project, a complex of key cultural works of the Capital associated with the space of Quang An Peninsula - West Lake.
This is a complex of cultural and artistic works of international stature, demonstrating the aspiration to build a cultural, civilized, modern, and unique capital, and is one of the tasks to contribute to the development and promotion of cultural industry, creating new cultural institutions to implement Conclusion No. 156-KL/TU dated May 21, 2025 of the Politburo on building and developing Vietnamese culture and people.
According to Vice Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Duong Duc Tuan, implementing the Hanoi Capital Planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050 and the Adjustment of the Capital Master Plan to 2045, with a vision to 2065, culture and heritage are identified as one of the five important pillars of development. In the context of deep international integration, investing in iconic cultural works is of great significance, affirming the position of the thousand-year-old capital, while promoting the image of Vietnam as innovative, creative, humane, integrated and sustainably developed.
The investment project to build the Hanoi Opera House and the thematic cultural and artistic park has a profound humanity, the goal is to serve the community, not for profit and with socialized capital, which is very rare in the world, because most large theaters are invested or sponsored by the State.

The fact that Sun Group Corporation - one of the leading private enterprises has pioneered investment, with the desire to create a complex of typical cultural works, modern, new architecture, of international stature, demonstrates the aspiration to rise. In particular, Sun Group Corporation has continued to affirm its strategic vision when the Hanoi Opera House was designed by Italian architect Renzo Piano - a world master of architecture, promising to create a work with a unique artistic and architectural mark, worthy of becoming a new cultural symbol of Vietnam. The Hanoi Opera House is expected to be completed in 2027.

Speaking at the ceremony, Director of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics Nguyen Xuan Thang said that after completion, the Hanoi Opera House and the Cultural and Arts Park will become cultural works of international stature, a meaningful gift to celebrate the 71st anniversary of the Capital Liberation Day.
Comrade Nguyen Xuan Thang emphasized that the groundbreaking of the project not only demonstrates the determination to build a new cultural symbol but also marks a milestone affirming the thinking and strategic vision of the Party and State in developing Vietnamese culture and people - considering this as a resource and driving force for the country's development.
Affirming that the Hanoi Opera House will be a place to gather the quintessence of international culture, while spreading Vietnamese talent and identity globally, comrade Nguyen Xuan Thang also highly appreciated Hanoi city for thoroughly grasping the Party's policies, pioneering in realizing the socialization of investment resources, clearly demonstrating the spirit of Resolution 68-NQ/TU of the Politburo on private economic development, considering this field an important driving force of the economy.
Comrade Nguyen Xuan Thang also believes that Sun Group and its partners will complete the project on schedule and put it into use soon so that the people of the capital and the whole country can enjoy it and be more proud of a modern cultural project in the heart of the thousand-year-old capital.
At the groundbreaking ceremony, Vietcombank presented a letter of approval for credit to implement the project investment, affirming the enterprise's support for the iconic project of Hanoi Capital.
