Attending the groundbreaking ceremony were comrades: Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, former member of the Politburo , Former Chairman of the National Assembly; Tran Quoc Vuong, former Politburo member, former Standing member of the Secretariat; Ngo Van Du, former Politburo member, former Head of the Central Inspection Commission ; Politburo members: Nguyen Xuan Thang, Director of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, Chairman of the Central Council of Theory; Bui Thi Minh Hoai, Secretary of the City Party Committee, Head of the National Assembly Delegation of Hanoi City.
Also attending the ceremony were Party Central Committee members: Mai Van Chinh, Deputy Prime Minister; Nguyen Thi Thanh, Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly; Nguyen Dac Vinh, Chairman of the National Assembly's Committee for Culture and Social Affairs; Lai Xuan Mon, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda and Education Commission for Mass Mobilization.
Hanoi Opera House has a scale of 40 hectares, with a total investment of 12,756 billion VND, using capital from Sun Group Corporation.

The entire design, construction and operation process is closely managed and supervised by Hanoi city.
The theater was designed by Italian architect Renzo Piano, one of the most influential architects of the 20th century.
With a floor area of approximately 40,980m² (excluding parking and technical areas), the theatre has two large auditoriums including an opera auditorium (capacity of 1,797 seats) and a multi-purpose auditorium with a mobile seating system that can be moved to create space for events with a capacity of 1,430 standing seats and 216 balcony seats.

The theater can serve to perform many different art forms such as: symphony concerts, opera and classical ballet performances, and is a space for cultural and artistic exchange and entertainment of the capital's people.
The theater's special feature is its dome architecture, which has a super-thin, super-strong structure and is covered with a pearl-effect material that can reflect the color of West Lake's water surface according to the time of day.
Ponds and lakes around the theater area such as the lotus pond of Pho Linh pagoda, Thuy Su lake... will be invested in cleaning, renovating, restoring and planting West Lake lotus, in sync with the park area.
In the West Lake area, 8 boat piers and water tourism routes will be built, including a boat pier right near the theater so that people and tourists can access the project by many routes.
Hanoi Opera House is expected to be a world-class art work, connecting world culture with Vietnamese culture and bringing Vietnamese culture to the world.

At the ceremony, Mr. Dang Minh Truong, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sun Group Corporation, pledged to mobilize all resources, intelligence and enthusiasm, together with leading domestic and international consultants and contractors to implement the project on schedule, with quality, safety and sustainability.

At the event, Vice Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Duong Duc Tuan said, This is a deeply humane project to serve the community and is implemented with socialized capital. Hanoi City commits to creating the most favorable conditions, accompanying and providing maximum support for the project to be implemented on schedule, with quality and safety, creating a complex of typical cultural works, modern, new architecture, of international stature.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Comrade Nguyen Xuan Thang, Politburo member, Director of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council, emphasized: The completed Hanoi Opera House project will be a modern cultural work, worthy of a civilized, modern and cultural capital.

He stated that the project is a vivid demonstration of the implementation of Resolution No. 68/NQ-TW of the Politburo on private economic development, considering the private economy as the most important driving force of economic development, diversifying resources and investment forms using social resources to serve the interests of all people.
He hopes the project will soon be completed and put into use as committed by the investor.
Hanoi Opera House is expected to be completed in 2027.
