
Every stormy season, the sea takes away dozens of houses. The remaining traces of landslides at the Sa Can estuary.
In response to these concerns, Quang Ngai Province has invested in a 500-meter embankment to prevent erosion at the Sa Can estuary. The project is being rushed to completion to protect the safety of 92 households, with 270 people in Tan Hy 1 village and Son Tra village, Van Tuong commune.
Joy after decades of waiting
Mrs. Nguyen Thi Duong, Tan Hy 1 village, emotionally said:
“This dream has been around for decades. Since the liberation, people have been bringing up their ideas but nothing has happened. Now, in 2025, we finally have this embankment. We are the happiest and most anxious about it in the world.”
Sharing the same happiness, Ms. Ngo Thi Cuc shared:
“In the past, during the rainy season, we would sit and watch the water, and when the water reached us, we would move things and take the children to hide. But now we are healthy, we are happy. The government built this embankment, and the people here are very happy.”

The Sa Can estuary landslide repair project has a total investment of 45 billion VND. After more than 2 months of construction, it has reached over 65% of the volume. The investor is the Quang Ngai Province Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board, which is mobilizing equipment and workers to speed up the progress to complete the project soon.

“Currently, the project progress is about 65%. The investor is also focusing on directing contractors to speed up the construction progress, completing the entire project by November 30, 2025.”
After decades of living in fear that the sea would swallow up their land and homes, the people here now feel secure. A sturdy embankment has appeared in Tan Hy 1 and Son Tra villages, providing a peaceful shield for the people's lives.
