On October 8, the World Football Federation officially announced the decision to appoint Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan - Member of the Standing Committee of the Asian Football Confederation, President of the Vietnam Football Federation, to hold the position of Member of the FIFA National Team Competition Committee for the 2025-2029 term.
This is one of the specialized agencies with a strategic role in consulting, planning, organizing and operating the world's leading tournaments such as the FIFA World Cup, FIFA U20 World Cup, FIFA U17 World Cup, and the system of team-level tournaments under FIFA.
According to the official document sent to the Vietnam Football Federation, the appointment decision was approved by the FIFA Council at the meeting on October 2, 2025, and at the same time affirmed that it will support Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan to successfully complete his tasks in the new position.
Taking on a role at FIFA is not only a recognition of Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan's personal management capacity but also reflects the increasingly elevated position of Vietnamese football in the global football ecosystem.
In parallel with his new position at FIFA, Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan is currently undertaking many important responsibilities at the Asian Football Confederation and the Southeast Asian Football Confederation, including: Chairman of the Competition Committee of the Asian Football Confederation and the Southeast Asian Football Confederation, Member of the Organizing Committee of the Asian Cup 2023-2027, and Head of the Executive Committee of the 2026 ASIAD men's football event assigned by the Asian Football Confederation.
These positions not only demonstrate his central role in strategic management, but also create an important bridge for Vietnam to participate in activities that shape continental and world football.
Along with Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan, the Vietnam Football Federation has three other representatives appointed by FIFA to important professional committees, including:
General Secretary of the Vietnam Football Federation Nguyen Van Phu has been appointed as a member of the FIFA Medical Committee. In this new role, Mr. Nguyen Van Phu will join the world's leading experts in advising, developing and supervising the implementation of medical policies and regulations in global football, contributing to ensuring the health, safety and welfare of players.
Currently, he is also a member of the Medical Committee of the Asian Football Confederation. The continued selection by FIFA is a clear demonstration of the professional capacity, personal prestige and increasingly affirmed role of the Vietnam Football Federation officials in the international sports medicine system.
In the field of women's football, Ms. Nguyen Thanh Ha, Deputy General Secretary of the Vietnam Football Federation, has been appointed as a member of the FIFA Women's Football Committee. She will join members from many countries in planning strategies and building mechanisms to develop tournament systems for women at the national team and club levels.
Ms. Nguyen Thanh Ha's holding this role is not only a recognition of her management capacity and practical experience, but also reflects the strong development and growing influence of Vietnamese women's football in the international arena. She is also currently a member of the Women's Football Committee of the Asian Football Confederation.
Previously, FIFA also decided to appoint Ms. Nguyen Thi My Dung - arbitrator at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), Deputy Head of the Licensing Board of the Vietnam Football Federation as a member of the FIFA Disciplinary Committee.
Ms. My Dung is also a member of the Disciplinary Committee of the World Athletics Federation and a member of the Asian Football Confederation's Appeals Committee. Her presence in international arbitration bodies shows that the Vietnamese professional staff has been meeting strict international standards, gradually affirming its position on many fronts of professional sports management.
The fact that many key officials of the Vietnam Football Federation are trusted to FIFA's professional committees is not only a source of pride for Vietnamese football, but also an important step forward in the international integration process, affirming its management capacity, strategic thinking and ability to make substantial contributions to the overall development of world football.
