President Putin's Aurus limousine has a "gas-free" 870km range

At the recent “Innoprom Belarus” exhibition, the Russian Central Automotive and Engine Research Institute (NAMI) introduced the new Aurus Hydrogen luxury car prototype.

The new Aurus Hydrogen 2026 is Russia's first luxury sedan equipped with a hydrogen fuel cell. The car is developed on the Aurus Senat platform, which is used by high-ranking Russian leaders, including President Putin, and has now been converted to a more environmentally friendly configuration.

Specifically, the Aurus Hydrogen is powered by three electric motors combined with a full-time 4-wheel drive system for a total output of 1,020 horsepower. The main power source of the drive system comes from a hydrogen fuel cell, where hydrogen reacts with oxygen to create electricity, while emitting only pure water vapor.

The Aurus Hydrogen super luxury car is also equipped with a 100 kWh lithium-ion battery, which can be charged from an external power source and also acts as an energy buffer during acceleration phases or when the system requires high power.

According to NAMI, the Aurus Hydrogen is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 4 seconds, with a top speed of 240 km/h, which is impressive for a sedan weighing more than 2.5 tons. The high-pressure hydrogen tank is designed to hold 8 kg of compressed hydrogen at 700 atmospheres, enough for a maximum range of 870 km, including energy from the battery and from the fuel cell.

Based on the Aurus Senat platform, the Hydrogen model retains its luxurious, classic European style. The car has a large grille, thick chrome trim and the signature wing logo, creating a majestic appearance, reminiscent of Rolls-Royce or Bentley.

Inside, the car's interior is made from high-quality materials such as real wood, natural leather and shiny metal. The car has an integrated digital display that displays information about hydrogen levels, power consumption and battery status.

The entire air conditioning system and seats on this super luxury Aurus Hydrogen are designed to ensure maximum quietness and comfort, in line with the positioning of the car line serving heads of state.

According to NAMI representatives, the launch of Aurus Hydrogen is to demonstrate the potential of Russia's clean energy technology, not to aim at immediate commercial production. The research institute asserts that the technical platform on the car can be extended to many car models in the future, including SUVs and limousines. One of the major challenges today is the hydrogen filling station infrastructure, which is not yet widely developed in Russia.

In addition, storing and transporting hydrogen at high pressure requires strict safety standards. However, experts consider Aurus's testing of hydrogen technology a bold step, demonstrating the Russian auto industry's determination to reduce its dependence on fossil fuels and keep up with the global trend towards clean energy.

Unlike pure electric vehicles, hydrogen fuel cell vehicles can be recharged in just a few minutes, while still providing a range comparable to a gasoline vehicle. The system also does not rely on a dense electricity grid, making it more suitable for countries with large geographical areas.

The all-new Aurus Hydrogen is considered the world's first luxury sedan to use this technology, something that even major brands like Rolls-Royce, Bentley or Mercedes-Maybach have yet to introduce.

According to experts at the INNOPROM exhibition, if produced in limited quantities in the future, Aurus Hydrogen could become a new symbol of Russian technology and power, similar to the role that the Senat model once played in the executive car segment.
