Liverpool prevent Salah from going to Saudi Arabia

VnExpressVnExpress25/08/2023

The Anfield team confirmed that there is no way to let Mohamed Salah leave despite an attractive offer from Saudi Arabian club Al Ittihad.

Al Ittihad have been chasing Salah since the beginning of the summer. The Saudi Pro League champions see the Egyptian star as a "jewel" who can help them achieve good results at the Club World Cup, which takes place in Saudi Arabia in December.

However, Liverpool are trying to prevent Al Ittihad from approaching Salah. With the transfer window only open for a week, the 31-year-old striker leaving now will be a loss that is difficult to compensate for Jurgen Klopp and his team. According to Daily Mail , Liverpool have firmly stated that Salah will not leave, at least this summer.

Salah has not ruled out a move to Saudi Arabia. As the most popular athlete in the Muslim world, the Egyptian could be in for a treat if he accepts Al Ittihad's offer. The Saudi Pro League champions have reportedly offered Salah $97 million a year.

However, for this deal to be successful, Salah needs the support of Liverpool and his agent Ramy Abbas. Two weeks ago, Abbas announced that Salah would not leave Anfield this summer and was still committed to his future with Liverpool.

Despite Liverpool's rejection, Al Ittihad is still determined to convince Salah. After Neymar moved to Saudi Arabia, fans here believe that no player is impossible to convince them. Therefore, the reigning Saudi Pro League champions can send Salah more attractive offers to lure him away from Liverpool.

Salah is one of the club's captains after Jordan Henderson left. The Egyptian striker is currently Liverpool's highest-paid player, earning $440,000 a week. But this figure pales in comparison to the treatment he receives in Saudi Arabia. After moving to Al Ettifaq, Henderson is said to be earning $880,000 a week.

Because the Saudi Arabian transfer window closes later than the UK, clubs like Liverpool risk losing players without being able to buy a replacement. Klopp has spoken out about this issue with UEFA.

Al Ittihad is currently led by former Tottenham coach Nuno Espirito Santo. This summer, they brought in famous stars such as Karim Benzema, N'golo Kante and Salah's former teammate - midfielder Fabinho.
