Hundreds of hectares of rice in Dong Thap Muoi, Tay Ninh province are at risk of flooding.

In Vinh Thanh commune, many sections of the dike overflowed, some of which broke, causing nearly 30 hectares of rice and fruit trees to be deeply flooded, and about 180 other hectares to be inundated.

In Vinh Chau commune, thousands of hectares of rice and vegetable growing land are also at risk of flooding if heavy rain continues.

The communes of Nhon Hoa Lap, Khanh Hung, Vinh Hung, and Tuyen Binh also recorded rapid water rise, increasing pressure on the dike system.

The dike surrounding Go Phao hamlet, Hung Dien commune was broken, the locality mobilized nearly 50 officers and soldiers (police, military , border guards) to promptly rescue 200 hectares of rice here.

A representative of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Tay Ninh province said that according to records, the water level on the T1 canal, the 1/6 canal and the internal canals were sometimes about 2m higher than the field surface, many sections of water were level with the dike surface, the risk of overflow and dike breakage was very high. Local forces and people are urgently reinforcing weak points, using sandbags, bamboo poles, and stone cages to protect the embankment, limiting flooding of the upcoming autumn-winter and winter-spring rice crops.

Provincial authorities said that water levels on canals and streams in the area are rising an average of 3-5cm per day, in some places exceeding the 2024 flood peak by more than 30cm.

Faced with complicated weather developments, the province has issued a level 2 disaster risk warning, requiring localities to deploy response plans according to the "four on-site" motto, proactively draining water, protecting production and ensuring safety for people.

Currently, local authorities in flood-affected areas are concentrating all their forces on reinforcing the dike system and weak embankments, mobilizing people to be on duty day and night, ready to respond when water levels continue to rise.
