With 397,000 arrivals in 8 months, Vietnam is one of the 7 largest markets sending visitors to Japan.

An announcement from the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) in Vietnam on September 26 showed that the number of Vietnamese visitors in August reached 50,900, an increase of 16.5% over the same period in 2019 and an increase of 54% over the same period in 2022. In the first 8 months of the year, 397,000 Vietnamese visitors came to Japan, an increase of 17.4% compared to the pre-pandemic period, ranking 7th in the top markets sending the most visitors to Japan.

The top 6 international tourist markets to Japan in the first 8 months of the year include South Korea (4.3 million arrivals), Taiwan (nearly 2.6 million), the US (1.3 million), mainland China (nearly 1.3 million), Hong Kong (nearly 1.3 million), and Thailand (580,000). Among the top 7 tourist markets, Vietnam and the US are the two markets with positive growth compared to the same period in 2019. The remaining 5 markets all had negative growth.

"Vietnam is one of the markets with the highest recovery rate and growth in the number of visitors to Japan in the world ," JNTO commented.

Responding to VnExpress on September 27, JNTO chief representative in Vietnam Yoshida Kenji said that Vietnam has always been considered a key market for Japanese tourism. JNTO representative expects the number of Vietnamese visitors to Japan this year to exceed the record of 2019 (500,000 arrivals).

In addition, JNTO continuously carries out promotional activities to promote tourism in Vietnam, appointing singer Dong Nhi - Ong Cao Thang as Japanese tourism ambassadors. "In the future, we will strive to closely cooperate with airlines and travel companies to attract Vietnamese tourists," said Mr. Kenji.

It is expected that in the next two months, the number of Vietnamese tourists to Japan will continue to increase due to the red and yellow leaf season. According to many travel agencies, autumn is considered the low season for tourism, and service prices are lower than the peak summer season. In addition, the devaluation of the yen has caused tour prices to drop sharply.

Ms. Vu Thi Bich Hue, Head of Communications at Flamingo RedTours, said that tour prices to Japan are at a "record low". A 4-day, 3-night trip to Osaka or Tokyo including round-trip airfare, visa fees, 3-star hotel, airport shuttle in Vietnam and a tour guide to assist with immigration in both countries costs from 9.9 million VND. A 4-day package tour from Tokyo to Mount Fuji or Osaka - Kyoto - Tokyo costs from 16.9 million VND. With the current "soft" tour prices, the number of visitors to Japan is expected to continue to increase.
