If you avoid sweets or have high blood pressure or cholesterol, you may be hesitant to add sweetened condensed milk to your cup of coffee.

Researchers at the University of Toronto (Canada) investigated the health effects of replacing cow's milk with soy milk by analyzing 17 trials, including more than 500 participants.

The average duration of each trial was four weeks and participants drank an average of 500 ml of cow's milk or soy milk per day. They could drink the milk alone or mix it into tea or coffee.

The results found that in all studies, replacing cow's milk with soy milk helped reduce both cholesterol levels, blood pressure and reduced markers of inflammation, according to the Daily Mail.

Soy milk may help lower both cholesterol levels and high blood pressure.

The study authors note that, on average, the total sugar content in soy milk products is about 60% less than that in cow's milk.

Research evidence suggests that replacing cow's milk with soy milk may benefit blood lipids, blood pressure, and inflammation, the researchers say.

In particular, when mixing soy milk into tea or coffee instead of sweetened condensed milk or fresh milk, the above benefits are increased.
