Recently, Arizona-based Westcott Designs has upgraded the Lexus GX 550 with new wheels and larger tires. Previously, at the SEMA show, Westcott had done a modification for Toyota. Westcott's lift kit can raise the front by 2.5 inches (63.5 mm) and the rear by 0.75 inches (19.05 mm), enough to fit tires up to 35 inches tall.
For the GX, however, Westcott used a slightly smaller set of Nitto Ridge Grapplers - 285/55/22 - combined with 22-inch Vossen HF6-3 gloss black wheels, creating a contrast with the simple silver paint. The large wheels and low-profile tires give the GX a very personal look. Lexus offers 33-inch tires on factory 18-inch wheels on the Overtrail (with a 1.0-inch lift kit). The larger tires and thicker sidewalls are ideal for serious off-roading, while also providing a smooth ride.
Compared to the previous generation, the 2024 GX redesign is one of the most impressive changes. The Lexus off-road SUV not only has a sharp design and added new technology, but also uses an improved separate chassis platform, shared with the Land Cruiser in the US (or Land Cruiser Prado in other markets). Lexus GX 550 has a 3.4L twin-turbo V6 engine with 349 horsepower and 650 Nm of torque. The twin-turbo V6 is one of the differentiators between the GX and the Land Cruiser, which only has a turbocharged four-cylinder hybrid powertrain with 326 horsepower and 462 lb-ft of torque.
The price of the GX 550 starts from 66,185 USD, equivalent to 1.72 billion VND, higher than its "brother" Toyota. This price is close to the Land Rover Defender 110 with four-door configuration, but the Defender is only equipped with a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine.
