According to the Inquirer, a 7.5-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Manay, Davao Oriental province, at 9:43 a.m. on October 10, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
The earthquake had an epicenter at a depth of 10 km, 62 km southeast of Manay, a coastal city in Davao Oriental.

Phivolcs initially said the quake measured 7.6 on the Richter scale.
People rushed out of buildings and gathered on the streets in many places in Mindanao when the earthquake struck.
A video shared with the Inquirer showed water spilling from a fish tank at a pet shop in Tagum City, Davao del Norte. The tremors were felt in Davao City and Cagayan de Oro City.
The Davao City government has ordered the suspension of classes in both public and private schools so that authorities can quickly assess the damage to school infrastructure and facilities.
Phivolcs issued a tsunami warning after the first quake lasted at least 30 seconds. Many residents were evacuated after the tsunami warning.
