Nguyen Thuy Linh returns after injury

Vietnam's number 1 badminton player Nguyen Thuy Linh has recovered from injury and is back on the journey to conquer major international tournaments in preparation for the 33rd SEA Games taking place in Thailand this December.

Unfortunately, Nguyen Thuy Linh suffered ankle and foot injuries that forced her to withdraw midway through the first round of the women's singles at the China Masters badminton tournament last month. To focus on treating her injury, Thuy Linh did not participate in international tournaments including the Arctic Open (Finland), Denmark Open, and Hylo Open (Germany). Not participating in these tournaments caused the number 1 Vietnamese tennis player to drop in rank. In the latest rankings of the Badminton World Federation (BWF), Nguyen Thuy Linh dropped 3 places, from 19th to 22nd.

Nguyen Thuy Linh will compete in international tournaments in Korea, Japan, and Australia in November.

Previously, Nguyen Thuy Linh had consecutive successes when she won the Vietnam Open Badminton Championship, entered the top 16 best players of the world championship, and from there rose to 17th in the world, which is also the highest ranking in her career. She also set a goal of entering the top 15 in the world to be selected as a high seed, increasing her chances of competing for medals at the 33rd SEA Games. However, the injury incident has significantly affected Thuy Linh's goals.

Yesterday (October 22), according to information from the coaching staff of the Vietnamese badminton team, after more than 1 month of treatment, Nguyen Thuy Linh has recovered and is in the process of high-intensity training to regain her form. According to the latest plan, Thuy Linh will return to the Korean Masters badminton tournament taking place from November 4. This tournament is part of the BWF World Tour Super 300 system, with a total prize money of 240,000 USD (about 6 billion VND). Next, she will participate in the Japan Masters tournament taking place from November 11. This tournament is part of the World Tour Super 500 system, so the total prize money is up to 475,000 USD (about 12 billion VND), attracting many strong players. At the end of November, Thuy Linh will participate in the Australian Open, also part of the World Tour Super 500 system.

If she goes far in the above tournaments, Nguyen Thuy Linh has a chance to enter the world top 15 before participating in the 33rd SEA Games. This is also the motivation for the number 1 Vietnamese tennis player to strive because her biggest goal this year is to win the highest title at the SEA Games. However, the coaching staff of the Vietnamese badminton team, including expert Hariawan Hong, also considers and calculates the appropriate training and competition intensity to avoid overloading Nguyen Thuy Linh and causing a recurrence of injury.

Vietnamese tennis players increase international exposure

In addition to Nguyen Thuy Linh, other Vietnamese badminton talents are also actively training and competing internationally. Nguyen Hai Dang (ranked 5th in the world) is also qualified to participate in the Korean Masters badminton tournament in early November. Le Duc Phat is participating in the Vietnam International Series badminton tournament taking place in Ninh Binh. Young talent Nguyen Thi Thu Huyen is participating in the Asian Youth Games in Bahrain.
