Phu My NPK reaches 1 million tons - Steady steps for a bumper crop

Journey to master modern technology

More than 20 years ago, every crop season, Vietnamese farmers still had to wait for ships carrying fertilizer from abroad. At that time, up to 90% of the nitrogen used for agricultural production had to be imported with unstable prices and quality. The turning point came in 2004, when Phu My Fertilizer Plant - the first petrochemical project of the Vietnam National Energy Industry Group ( Petrovietnam ) officially operated. Phu My Fertilizer products quickly conquered farmers: uniform grains, stable quality, high crop yield, cost savings and supported by a dedicated distribution and sales service system.

In a short time, Phu My Fertilizer accounted for over 40% of the urea market share nationwide and became the leading brand in the Vietnamese fertilizer industry.

However, for the people who make Phu My Fertilizer, that is not the end. A new aspiration is born: to produce modern chemical technology NPK, a complex fertilizer that farmers have long had to import or use ineffective manual mixing. In early 2018, after a series of tests and parameter adjustments, Phu My NPK Factory successfully ran a trial run and officially went into commercial production. This is also the first modern chemical technology NPK Factory according to European standards in Vietnam.

Phu My NPK "packages" all the nutrients in each grain. Thanks to that, plants absorb in a balanced way, reduce loss, increase efficiency, save costs while still increasing productivity. For farmers, it is a big change: less fertilizer loss, healthier plants, and better income from fields and gardens.

However, in the early stages, the batches of Phu My NPK products tested were not stable, the uniformity was not high, the packaging did not really meet the market's taste... Faced with this reality, Phu My's young engineers did not just sit in the control room. They took their notebooks to the fields, to the rice fields in the West, the coffee gardens in the Central Highlands, and the pepper plantations in the Central region to listen to feedback from agents and farmers, and those sincere contributions were all carefully recorded.

All suggestions are compiled, analyzed and incorporated into the improvement process; optimizing formulas, adjusting additive ratios, strictly managing humidity; upgrading the entire packaging process, diversifying specifications and professional designs.

Not only conquering technology, Phu My NPK also stands out for its strictness in quality management. Input materials are carefully selected, high quality ammonia and urea from Phu My Fertilizer Plant; imported components from reputable suppliers in the world . Each batch of raw materials and finished products is independently inspected and strictly analyzed by the Quality Control Department according to PVFCCo - Phu My's standards and legal regulations.

Even without mandatory regulations, PVFCCo - Phu My has proactively controlled the content of Cadmium (Cd) - a heavy metal that can affect soil and crops; helping Phu My NPK become a "clean Cd" solution, safe for specialized export growing areas, especially durian in the Central Highlands - a type of tree that requires strict international standards.

Continuing the journey of innovation

If Phu My Fertilizer has opened the era of self-sufficiency in nitrogen fertilizer, then Phu My NPK is continuing the journey with continuous innovation to conquer the extremely competitive capital market.

In just a few years, the factory has launched nearly 10 product lines with about 30 different NPK formulas to meet the diverse needs of each land area and each type of crop. Many formulas are not on the list of the technology copyright holder. This shows that young engineers have dared to "go out of their comfort zone", researching and adjusting the nutrient ratio to suit the soil and farming practices of each region. From the first standard NPK seeds, they gradually "Vietnamized" the formula by adding sulfur (S), supplementing secondary and trace elements (TE), changing the form of potassium to adapt to the red basalt soil of the Central Highlands or the saline coastal areas...

At Phu My NPK Factory, from the traditional NPK foundation, in 2022, the team of engineers pioneered the development of Phu My NPK + Microbiology - an inorganic NPK line containing beneficial microorganisms. Microbiological spores are "packaged" right in the fertilizer granules, when applied to the ground, they will multiply, both improving the soil, increasing fertilizer efficiency, and being safe and environmentally friendly. Or most recently, Phu My NPK 15-15-15+5S+TE SOP, a product line that uses entirely high-grade Potassium Sulphate (SOP), does not contain chlorine, and is especially suitable for sensitive crops such as durian.

Particularly noteworthy is the NPK product line for urban agriculture - Phu My Garden; specifically designed for fruit trees, vegetables, flowers and ornamental plants with convenient, luxurious packaging, distributed through both traditional and modern channels. Therefore, the trucks carrying Phu My NPK are not simply fertilizers, they carry the intelligence, perseverance and pioneering spirit of the Factory's staff and engineers.

The fertilizer market is highly volatile and competitive, but Phu My NPK still maintains its pioneering position thanks to its quality and understanding of users. From urea granules in 2004 to chemical technology NPK granules in 2018, then the million ton milestone - that is the proud journey of PVFCCo - Phu My.
