The green shirts of young people blend in with the functional forces urgently fighting the flood. |
Storm No. 11 caused heavy damage to Van Xuan ward, affecting more than 600 households. People’s houses, properties, livestock and crops were submerged in water, many households were left penniless overnight.
As soon as the floodwaters began to rise, more than 100 members of the Van Xuan ward youth union were present at key points, promptly assisting the authorities in building dikes and helping people move their belongings, assets, and livestock to safety.
With the spirit of "saving anything for the people, no matter how small, is very precious", the young people did not mind the rain or wind, soaking themselves in cold water to support each family.
Mr. Dong Van Thanh, Secretary of the Van Xuan Ward Youth Union, shared: Many members and young people in the team were also flooded, without electricity and water, but when they saw people in need, they were still ready to go. With the pioneering spirit of youth, everyone just wanted to contribute a little to help people reduce damage and overcome the disaster.
In Phan Dinh Phung ward, most of the roads were cut off, traffic was paralyzed, there was no electricity, no mobile network. Thousands of households were isolated, lacking food, drinking water and necessities. The ward's youth union members quickly organized into many small groups with 3 main checkpoints, over 150 youth union members were on duty 24/7, ready to brave the rain and soak in water to rush to "hot spots" to rescue and support people.
With the spirit of "wherever needed, there are young people, wherever difficult, there are young people", young people have taken on many important tasks such as transporting goods, packing relief supplies, supplying necessities and participating in cooking "free" meals to deliver to the people. Hot meals and clean water bottles were delivered by union members and young people in the rain and wading through the water to the people stranded in the flood area.

Regardless of rain and flood, youth union members actively support people. |
Along with that, Phan Dinh Phung Ward Youth Union also proactively received charity groups from all over; organized the classification, arrangement and reasonable distribution of relief goods to the right residential areas in urgent need.
When the floodwaters began to recede, the youth union members continued to "share the burden" with the people to overcome the consequences. They went to each household to help clean up mud, clean houses, dry blankets, rearrange furniture...
Sharing about the support activities during the recent flood, Ms. Vu Duong Bao Chau, Deputy Secretary of the Youth Union of Phan Dinh Phung Ward, said: We clearly understand that in natural disasters, every minute of delay can cause people to lose more property, even endanger their lives. What touched me most was the spirit of solidarity and responsibility of the youth. There were friends who waded through water from morning to night, transported relief goods, cooked rice and then continued to deliver them to each household.
Without being told, everyone worked with all their heart and soul. Although many young people’s families were also affected by the floods, and even their own houses were flooded, everyone tried their best with the hope of contributing to help people overcome the disaster.
The presence of youth union members in flood-hit areas not only brings practical value through concrete actions, but also becomes a great source of spiritual encouragement for people struggling to bear the brunt of natural disasters.
During times of trouble, the image of young volunteers in green shirts, not hesitating to get dirty and soak in water to deliver bags of rice, meals, bottles of water... to people has truly touched the hearts of many people.
It is the spirit of volunteerism, a kind heart and youthfulness that is not afraid of difficulties that have created a beautiful image of a generation of responsible young people, always ready to "be there when the Fatherland needs".
