A YouTuber nicknamed sammyuri has just announced the project "CraftGPT" - a large language model (LLM) similar to ChatGPT built entirely using the original redstone mechanism in the Minecraft world .
CraftGPT is considered to be quite compact in terms of model architecture, with only about 5 million parameters. The creator explained that this is the maximum limit that his "poor laptop" can handle.
However, converting this LLM model to Minecraft blocks requires a huge amount of space. According to the latest introduction video , CraftGPT takes up 1,020 × 260 × 1,656 blocks, which is about 439 million blocks.
The scale is so large that the creator had to use the Distant Horizons mod to ensure the entire structure could be displayed on screen simultaneously and maintained smooth operation. Sammyuri asserts that despite its massive size, the entire structure was built using only pure Minecraft redstone mechanics, with no additional mods interfering with the operating logic.

The completion of this mega-project took months, a testament to the incredible perseverance and creativity of the gaming community in pushing the limits of gaming.
At the core of the LLM model, sammyuri trained CraftGPT in the Python programming language using the available TinyChat dataset.
However, this very data source created significant limitations. Since TinyChat only included very basic English conversations and CraftGPT's entire vocabulary was limited to 1,920 tokens, the model was barely able to generate responses as sophisticated or complex as ChatGPT.
On the project's official GitHub page, developer sammyuri issued a warning to those looking to experiment with CraftGPT.
“You shouldn’t have high expectations,” Sammyuri stressed. He said the Redstone-based LLM model is prone to straying off-topic, frequently giving grammatically incorrect or even nonsensical responses.
Processing speed is also a major obstacle. Even running on a high-performance Redstone server with a tick rate increased by 40,000 times, the model still takes about 2 hours to generate a response. If running at default speed, the wait time can be… more than 10 years for a response.
Those who want to try it out can download the full setup file on GitHub. Sammyuri recommends a minimum of 32GB of RAM, ideally 64GB, and includes detailed setup instructions and tips for optimal performance.
Like many other “impossible” Minecraft builds, CraftGPT is more about demonstrating capabilities than practical application. Previously, the community has witnessed a computer with a 1KB processor or in-game PCs running Doom and even replaying Minecraft itself.
