On October 23, at the Government Headquarters, Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son received US Ambassador to Vietnam Marc E. Knapper.
The Deputy Prime Minister appreciated that the bilateral relationship continues to maintain positive development momentum, with many practical activities held by the two sides to celebrate the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations.
In that spirit, the Deputy Prime Minister suggested that both sides maintain the positive development momentum of bilateral relations, including contacts and exchanges of delegations at all levels, especially high-level ones.
The Deputy Prime Minister affirmed that Vietnam wishes to cooperate more closely with the United States in areas of mutual interest within the framework of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, especially in science and technology, training of high-quality human resources, energy, semiconductors, etc., while continuing to maintain good cooperation in the fields of overcoming war consequences and building trust.
The Deputy Prime Minister appreciated the two negotiating delegations' continued close cooperation and exchanges, and suggested that the US continue to consider the specific factors of Vietnam's economy during the negotiation process of the Reciprocal Tax Agreement between the two countries.
The Deputy Prime Minister affirmed that Vietnam will continue to increase purchases of US goods, especially high-tech products such as aircraft and semiconductor products, expanding the market for US goods and creating conditions for US businesses to operate effectively in Vietnam.
Ambassador Knapper emphasized that 2025 is an important year in the bilateral relationship as the two sides celebrate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. The US Embassy in Hanoi has and will continue to coordinate with Vietnamese agencies and localities to organize practical commemorative activities, aiming for a bright future between the two countries and peoples.
Ambassador Knapper affirmed that he attaches special importance to promoting delegation exchanges and contacts at all levels, including high-level ones, thereby maintaining the momentum of substantive and good development of relations between the two countries.
Ambassador Knapper expressed his gratitude to Vietnam for its positive approach, understanding of the US's concerns, and proactively promoting negotiations from a very early stage, affirming that the US side hopes that the two sides will soon complete negotiations to implement the reciprocal tax agreement, thereby bringing benefits to both countries.
Ambassador Knapper also affirmed that the US Embassy will closely coordinate with the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other ministries and sectors in the coming time to discuss measures to expand cooperation in all fields, with the hope of a strong, independent, self-reliant, prosperous Vietnam, and a strong development of the Vietnam-US Strategic Partnership, contributing more to peace, cooperation, and development in the region and the world./.
