Focus on solutions to create high quality brackish water shrimp seed sources

On the morning of October 16, in Khanh Hoa, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment coordinated with the People's Committee of Khanh Hoa province to organize a conference on brackish water shrimp seed development. Comrades: Phung Duc Tien - Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment; Trinh Minh Hoang - Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Khanh Hoa province; Tran Dinh Luan - Director of the Department of Fisheries and Fisheries Control co-chaired the conference.

Attending the conference were leaders of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, specialized agencies in the fields of fisheries, livestock, and agricultural extension of 21 coastal localities nationwide; research facilities, associations, and brackish water shrimp seed production enterprises.

Speaking at the conference, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Trinh Minh Hoang emphasized: Khanh Hoa has the longest coastline in the country with 490km, a diverse marine ecosystem, and the quality of seawater in Van Phong, Nha Trang, Cam Ranh, and Vinh Hy bays is very suitable for seed production and aquaculture, including shrimp. With the advantage of being the national shrimp seed capital, in the first 9 months of 2025, the output of shrimp seeds in the province reached 41.4 billion, an increase of 11.1% over the same period in 2024, supplying shrimp seeds to most localities in the country. To promote the leading role of the shrimp industry, in the coming time, the province will promote investment in construction and completion of infrastructure of concentrated aquatic seed production areas; create a transparent and effective investment and business environment to attract high-tech enterprises to invest in the aquaculture sector in general and seed production in particular; Strengthening the effectiveness of seed quality management and disease surveillance, ensuring that Khanh Hoa shrimp seed brand always has prestige and superior quality.

At the conference, delegates listened to and discussed the results of brackish water shrimp breed development in the period of 2020 - 2025, the development plan for the period of 2026 - 2030; the results of importing parent shrimp, quarantine of brackish water shrimp breed from 2020 to present, management orientation for the period of 2026 - 2030; the results of scientific and technological tasks in selecting brackish water shrimp breeds in recent years, orientation in research to improve the quality of brackish water shrimp breeds in the coming time; some advances in research on brackish water shrimp breed production; shrimp breed management in localities...

Concluding the conference, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Phung Duc Tien emphasized: 21 coastal provinces and cities across the country, especially Khanh Hoa, have great potential to develop aquaculture, including the brackish water shrimp industry; the quality of shrimp seed is the most important factor determining the development of this industry. To improve the quality of brackish water shrimp seed, the Deputy Minister suggested focusing on scientific and technological research to create a source of disease-free, high-quality brackish water shrimp seed, especially selecting and creating parent shrimp stocks. Localities need to effectively manage shrimp seed production and breeding facilities; inspect and strictly handle cases that do not meet the conditions but still produce and breed unsafe, disease-free shrimp seed, and still sell them to farmers.
