New research published in the journal Healthcare shows that a simple workplace wellness program called the '15-Minute Challenge' can help you stick to regular exercise.

The study, conducted by scientists from the University of South Australia (UniSA) and the 15 Minute Challenge organisation, looked at the effectiveness of the innovative program in promoting physical activity and improving health outcomes in employees.

In today's busy world , it can be difficult to find time to exercise regularly.

What is the 15 minute challenge?

The 15-Minute Challenge is a six-week workplace wellness initiative that encourages employees to participate in at least 15 minutes of physical activity each day. Participants use a mobile app to log their activities and compete with their colleagues in groups. The program aims to make exercise more accessible and fun by breaking down activities into manageable chunks and adding a social element.

In the study, the authors analyzed data from 11,575 participants from 73 companies in Australia, New Zealand, and the UK.

The results were promising, showing that even a small amount of daily exercise can have significant health benefits. Participants improved in many aspects of their health and well-being. They felt healthier, had more energy, slept better, and had a better mood. The improvements ranged from 7 to 14 percent, according to the research website Study Finds.

Challenge participants can choose any form of physical activity they like.

Lead researcher Dr Ben Singh said: “Regular physical activity has significant benefits for physical and mental health. It helps prevent and manage chronic diseases, such as cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes and cancer, and also reduces depression and anxiety.

One of the most notable findings was a significant increase in physical activity levels among participants.

At the start of the program, only 57% of participants met or exceeded international physical activity guidelines, which recommend 150–300 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise per week. By the end of the six weeks, 95% of participants met or exceeded these guidelines.

One of the main strengths of the 15 Minute Challenge is its accessibility and flexibility. Participants can choose any form of physical activity they like, from walking to cycling to yoga. This attracts more participants, with 98% participating in the first week and 71% still participating by the last week.

Perhaps most telling, 92% of participants said they would recommend the program to colleagues and would likely participate again in the future, according to Study Finds.
