Prime Minister requests consideration of declaring end of COVID-19 epidemic

Accordingly, the Government Office has just issued Official Dispatch No. 3575 conveying the Prime Minister's instructions to Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan on COVID-19 prevention and control in the new situation.

The dispatch stated that, considering report No. 626 dated May 13, 2023 of the Ministry of Health on COVID-19 prevention and control in the new situation, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh assigned the Ministry of Health to preside over and coordinate with relevant ministries and agencies to prepare documents according to regulations to transfer COVID-19 from group A infectious disease to group B and declare the end of the epidemic.

Along with that, the Ministry of Health submits this dossier for the Prime Minister to consider and decide.

The Prime Minister agreed to the consolidation of the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control as proposed by the Ministry of Health in the above-mentioned report No. 626 and assigned the Ministry of Health to preside over and coordinate with relevant ministries and agencies to prepare documents for submission to the Prime Minister for consideration and decision.

At the same time, the Ministry of Health prepares the content and program, and coordinates with the Government Office to organize a meeting of the National Steering Committee on May 27, 2023 to announce the end of the Steering Committee's tasks.

The Prime Minister also requested the Ministry of Health to base on the recommendations of the World Health Organization and the actual situation of the COVID-19 epidemic in Vietnam, develop a plan for sustainable control and management of the COVID-19 epidemic for the period 2023 - 2025, and issue it according to its authority. In case of exceeding its authority, it will be reported to the competent authority for consideration and decision.

Since the beginning of the epidemic, Vietnam has had 11,600,569 infections, ranking 13th out of 231 countries and territories, while with the rate of infections per 1 million people, Vietnam ranks 120th out of 231 countries and territories (on average, there are 117,232 infections per 1 million people).
On May 19, the Ministry of Health announced that Vietnam recorded 1,980 cases of COVID-19. There are currently 81 severe patients being treated, an increase of 11 cases compared to yesterday. Today, there are 8 cases on ventilators, doubling in 24 hours.
