Today (August 13), striker Nguyen Van Toan underwent surgery for a meniscus injury. The surgery lasted 1 hour and 30 minutes and went smoothly. Coach Vu Hong Viet called to encourage Van Toan. He said that the team is ready to create the best conditions for striker number 9 to soon return to training with the team.

According to the club's doctors, it is expected that Van Toan will take about 5-6 months to return to competition. Currently, Van Toan is staying in the hospital for doctors to monitor him for the next few days.

Earlier this year, Van Toan suffered a knee injury during the AFF Cup 2024 campaign and only played in four matches in the group stage. After returning in March, the Vietnamese national team striker only played a total of six matches before the injury recurred in May. Therefore, Van Toan decided to undergo surgery to completely treat this injury.

Doctor Tran Huy Tho of the national team, who was present to monitor Van Toan's surgery, said: "Meniscus surgery only solves 50% of the injury, the rest is recovery training after surgery. Meniscus injuries are not as serious as ligament injuries, so it only takes 5-6 months for Toan to be able to return to competition."

Thus, Van Toan will definitely be absent in the first leg of the 2025-2026 season, although Nam Dinh Steel Club still included his name in the registration list. Thanh Nam team of course suffered a huge loss when previously it was also confirmed that Xuan Son would also have to rest until at least the end of 2025 because he had not recovered from his injury.

Xuan Son and Van Toan are not only the main strikers of Nam Dinh FC but also of the Vietnam national team. Coach Kim Sang Sik will have to find new elements in the attack when this duo will be absent in 2025. It is unclear whether Xuan Son and Van Toan will be able to return to play in March when hosting Malaysia at home.
