Flight attendants walk more than 15,000 steps/day, stand for 14 hours on the plane

(Dan Tri) - Many flight attendants say that wearing high heels at work is not only tiring but can also be unsafe, especially when employees have to get on and off the plane through narrow and steep stairs.

The Korean Air Staff Solidarity grassroots union, part of the Public Transport Workers' Union in Korea, has launched a campaign called " Sports Shoes for Flight Attendants." The campaign calls for improving working conditions for flight attendants by allowing them to wear sneakers instead of dress shoes or high heels.

The Korean Air Staff Solidarity grassroots union stressed that flight attendants have to walk more than 15,000 steps a day and stand for more than 14 hours on the plane. However, the current uniforms and high heels worn by flight attendants are completely unsuitable for these conditions.

Therefore, the union requires businesses to increase the number of flight attendants and change uniforms to be more convenient, helping employees work more safely and healthily.

The union stressed that instead of just changing the design, more practical criteria should be applied to ensure the comfort and health of flight attendants.

The trend of changing flight attendant uniforms has appeared in many countries around the world . Among them, Ukrainian airline Sky Up has replaced high heels and skirts with sneakers, loose jackets and long pants. Similarly, Japan Airlines has also removed the requirement to wear high heels, creating more flexible working conditions for employees.

Previously, Chinese airline Hunan Airlines became famous on social media in the country of a billion people thanks to its announcement of abolishing the requirement for female flight attendants to wear high heels.

The decision was made to protect the professional image, cabin safety and the health of staff. It was a move that received strong support on social media, attracting 54 million views and encouraging many other airlines to follow suit.

Previously, Hunan Airlines required female flight attendants to wear high heels before and after the flight, only allowing them to change into flat shoes while on the plane for safety reasons. However, now, employees are allowed to wear flat shoes whenever they want.

Medical experts have also praised Hunan Airlines' decision. A doctor at Peking University People's Hospital said that wearing high heels for long periods of time can damage the soles of the feet and toes, and increase the risk of injuries to the knees, pelvis and ankles.
