Ukraine president says there was 'emotional' discussion on missile, UAV self-sufficiency; US may delay aid

Reuters reported that on September 20, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that the country's senior officials agreed in an "emotional" discussion that Kiev needs to produce more weapons and faster.

According to Mr. Zelensky, ammunition production was the focus of the meeting with these officials, including the Defense and Foreign Ministers and top military commanders.

"We discussed in great detail, even emotionally, the issue of producing unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and supplying them to all components of the defense and security forces," the leader said via video .

Today, we also discussed the production of missiles, electronic warfare systems and cooperation with partners... The most important thing is not only to have contracts and funding, but also the speed of production and actual supply."

Meanwhile, on the same day, September 20, CNN TV channel said that the US plans to transfer a new military aid package to Ukraine, but the delivery of this shipment may be delayed.

An official announcement on the new military aid package will be made next week, but CNN notes that deliveries could be delayed due to the White House not having enough of the necessary equipment.

Earlier on September 20, two US officials revealed that Washington was preparing a $375 million military aid package for Kiev, breaking a months-long trend of providing smaller aid packages to serve military operations against Moscow.

The new aid package comes at a pivotal moment in the conflict, as Russia attacks Ukraine's energy grid ahead of the coming winter.

The aid package includes patrol boats, additional ammunition for the High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS), 155 mm and 105 mm artillery shells, spare parts and other weapons, according to unnamed officials.

The type of weapons and the size of the aid package could change in the coming days, before being signed by the US President.
