According to Mr. Trung, the total fertility rate of women of childbearing age in Ho Chi Minh City is 1.39, the lowest compared to the country's replacement fertility rate of 2.09 and is ranked among the 21 provinces with low fertility rates.
Ho Chi Minh City is entering a period of population aging; the population aging index (population aged 60 and over compared to population under 15 years old) of the city is 49.4%, higher than the whole country (48.8%).
