Wang Chuqin defeated French star Felix Lebrun 4-0 (11-7, 11-2, 11-5, 11-7) in the men's singles final, to confirm his strong comeback after being eliminated in the round of 32 last year.
"Last year, I went to Shijingshan to participate in the China Smash after a complicated experience at the Olympics, and my mental and emotional state was completely different from this year. Now I feel more positive and healthy. I believe I have gradually become more steadfast and determined in both my personal life and career," Wang Chuqin said in an interview with China Daily after his victory.
In the women's singles, second seed Wang Manyu also avenged last year's defeat to two-time world champion Sun Yingsha. Wang Manyu won in six games with a score of 4-2 (10-12, 11-7, 11-9, 11-5, 8-11, 11-2) to claim the championship.
"I have faced Shasha (Sun Yingsha's nickname) many times and in consecutive finals and today I just approached the match with the mindset of learning and challenging her. Today, I was just a little luckier. This Grand Slam means a lot to me," said Wang Manyu.
