The giant Tran Ngoc Tu showed his mettle when he excelled over his opponents to successfully defend his championship title at the 15th National Vovinam Strong Teams Tournament in 2024 in Gia Lai . This is the third time he has won the championship at this tournament.

The 15th National Vovinam Strong Team Championship 2024 took place from April 18-22 in Gia Lai province, attracting more than 350 athletes from 32 participating units. The athletes competed in 48 sets of medals, including 26 combat weight categories and 22 martial arts events.

The 2.25m tall giant boxer Tran Ngoc Tu of Ho Chi Minh City always receives attention every time he enters a competition.

In the men's over-kg category this year, Ngoc Tu met a boxer from Khanh Hoa in the semi-finals. With a physical advantage over his opponent, he quickly took the upper hand to score the first point.

Then, with the advantage of his long arm, he limited his opponent's close-quarters attacks with punches like thunder.

Superior strength and physique along with reasonable tactics helped Tran Ngoc Tu win 3-0 to enter the final match.

The final match of the men's over 92 kg weight class took place on the evening of April 19 in Gia Lai and received great attention from fans. Tran Ngoc Tu was carefully instructed on tactics by the coaches before entering the battle.

Entering the final match against Phuc Sang, Ngoc Tu was quite cautious despite being rated higher. The "Giant" did not rush to attack but calmly observed his opponent to launch powerful punches when the opportunity arose. In the second round, taking advantage of his opponent's weakness, Ngoc Tu kept a very good distance to launch a kick with impressive power. Immediately, the referees scored to help Ngoc Tu take the lead 1-0.

Having the advantage, Ngoc Tu proactively slowed down the match to distribute his strength. Besides, he continued to lurk and wait for every opportunity. Meanwhile, Phuc Sang, with his modest height, tried to attack but could not score points against the opponent's high knee defense. Tran Ngoc Tu won the final with a score of 1-0 to convincingly win the gold medal in the men's over 92 kg weight class.

This is the third time the "giant" has won the National Vovinam Strong Team Championship. Previously, he won gold medals in 2021 and 2023. In addition, he was crowned at the National Vovinam Championship in 2019.
