From early morning on the 15th of December, markets in Hanoi were bustling with people buying and selling items for the ceremony. Among them, the chicken holding a rose in its mouth at Hang Be market was the best-selling item.

On the morning of January 14 (December 15), shops selling chickens with roses in their mouths at the rich markets on Gia Ngu and Hang Be streets (Hoan Kiem district) were bustling with buyers and sellers.

Even though the weather is 11 degrees Celsius, people still go out early in the morning to buy full moon chickens.

On the 15th day of the 12th lunar month, families often prepare offerings to their ancestors, to welcome good things in the coming new year. The best-selling items today are chicken, sticky rice and fruits to display on the offerings.

At the Hang Be "rich people's market", the chicken with a rose in its mouth is still the best-selling item today. The reason this market is called the "rich people's market" is because the items are usually more expensive than elsewhere.

The boiled chicken is trimmed, shaped beautifully, arranged with roses and displayed on the table for customers to choose from.

According to the shop owner, chicken with rose in its mouth and roasted bird are some of the most popular items. Chicken with rose in its mouth costs 500,000 VND/bird.

Roasted bird costs from 130,000 - 150,000 VND/bird.

Along with chicken, sticky rice with gac fruit and five-color sticky rice cost 30,000 VND - 50,000 VND/plate.

Ms. Huyen Trang (Hang Bong) said: "Hang Be Market has a long tradition, specializing in preparing dishes for Tet holidays such as chicken, sticky rice, soup, spring rolls... because I am too busy with work, I still take the time to go to the market to buy enough items for the offering tray. The prices of items here this year are the same as every year."

In addition to going to the store to buy, many people also choose to have the product delivered to their home.

Delivery people work at full capacity from early morning to noon to deliver orders to customers on time.

Shop owners are busy helping customers hang chickens on their carts.

Also at Hang Be market, stalls selling fruits, fresh flowers, cooked food... are also busy serving customers.

Betel and areca nut prices start from 20,000 VND/ceremony, double the normal price.

The flower offerings include many types of flowers such as chrysanthemums, roses, grapefruit flowers, and areca flowers, priced from 150,000 - 200,000 VND/tray.

Motorbikes are full of offerings for the full moon day of the twelfth lunar month, everyone is in a hurry to buy things quickly to prepare the offerings for the ancestral altar. According to the people's belief, before welcoming the new year, Vietnamese people will prepare 3 offerings to see off the old year, including the full moon day of the twelfth lunar month, the Kitchen Gods' offering (23rd of the twelfth lunar month) and the New Year's Eve offering.
