U.17 Vietnam beat U.17 Qatar before going to Japan

Facing a highly-rated opponent, the coaching staff of the Vietnam U17 team took advantage of the opportunity to experiment with personnel and tactics. As a result, Vietnam U17 won 2-0 against Qatar U17 with goals from Huynh Trieu and Cong Phuong.

The match with U.17 Qatar also marked the end of the training period in Qatar for the U.17 Vietnam team. After this match, coach Hoang Anh Tuan and his team will head to Japan to begin the next training period, which will take place from May 22 to June 5.

Nguyen Cong Phuong is an outstanding player in the current U.17 Vietnam team.

During the training period in Japan, the team will continue to have 3 more friendly matches with local clubs. The training plan has been agreed by the coaching staff and VFF to create the best conditions for the players before starting to compete in the 2023 AFC U17 Championship, taking place in Thailand from June 15 to July 2.

According to the draw results, the U.17 Vietnam team is in Group D with Japan, India and Uzbekistan. Meanwhile, the host Thailand is in Group A with Yemen, Malaysia and Laos. Group B is a race between Korea, Iran, Afghanistan and Qatar, while Group C is a competition between Tajikistan, Australia, Saudi Arabia and China.

The teams will compete in a round robin format to determine their rankings in each group. The first and second teams in each group will advance to the quarter-finals. The four winners of the quarter-finals will advance to the semi-finals and also qualify for the 2023 U-17 World Cup in October.
